Today I received a letter from Pohanka Acura in Virginia (where I bought my TL) stating that according to the maintenance schedule for my car, I was due for the 3,750 service (which is basically an oil change).

WTF?? I thought the whole idea of the maintenance minder was to do away with traditional maintenance schedules. The minder says that my oil life is at 60%, I've got about 3,400 miles on the car thusfar.

Is this just a standard dealer effort to rip me off or are they truly oblivious to the features of the cars that they sell?

I'd say yes on both counts. Wait for the MID to tell you it's time. Especially for the first oil change. After that regular intervals such as 3750 miles makes sense. I'll still wait for the MID though.

It's just a reminder.....the dealer is just trying to help...don't take it for anything else.

dont do it. on the manual it says FOLLOWWW MID... they might just want some money. some work.. but follow your cars MID.. no called a bunch of us and most of us did it when the car told us to... Thats what was advised. and 60%.. its still new. i Did mine when my Service A light came on in my MID and i was at 10%.

Your dealer just follows the old book to make their Ad and distributes them to every customers they've known... Those old books do not belong to 3G TLs...
