Maintenance Question

My 06 TL has 16000km on it, the MID says 40% oil life remaining. My last oil change was one year ago, with Acura synthic oil.

Should I change the oil again or should I wait until the MID gets down to 5%?

I know people use to say that 3 months, or 3,000 miles is the best time to change it. I dont know how good oil is getting but having it in there a year seams like a long time to me.

I've always heard that you should change the oil after 12 months if you haven't had to do it sooner. I follow that rule on my RX-7 and I try to get Ms1995hoo to follow it on her RSX since she doesn't drive much (but she's very uncooperative about taking it in).

The owner's manual for the 2004 TL says the same thing: "If the message, [sic] 'SERVICE DUE NOW' does not appear more than 12 months after the display is reset, change the engine oil every year." This is referring to the MID display. The information appears in a footnote on page 199 of the '04 TL manual, which is the page that explains what the MID Maintenance Minder codes mean.

change it now!!!
3 months 3000 miles is old crappy oil from the 70s mentality- that is no longer valid!
Today you can go 7500 MILES on most anything- especially synthetics
Acura uses Mobil1 at the dealerships for its synthetic- it will go 7500 Miles and the MID is programmed for that.

If you only drive 15kms or less per trip- less than 10 minutes, then once a month take it out on the hiway for 30 minutes
Moisture gets in the oil and needs good hot engine temps to dry it out ,and dry the moisture in the exhaust
Ever notice water drops from the exhaust tips of cars in the morning?
That MUST be dried out to prevent rusting inside the mufflers and such.
