Maintainance/Service Agreement

The dealer told me I can purchase a Service Agreement where I pay 1100 + tax and that would cover maintainance for 5 Yrs or 60,000 miles. All I would have to do is gas and drive. This also covers tire's as long as the car is serviced at there dealer service department. I had a VW before which was very expensive to maintain and I didn't want to go throught the same maintainance nightmare again. Do you think this is a good plan/deal to do??

No - I think these agreements and extended warranties are sucker bets - if they weren't, they would not push them so hard. Unless you are too poor to pay for a repair, they are just bad investments - the House wins most of the time.

I agree, I think they are foolish, besides they will always find something that the $1100 you paid doesn't cover! Trust me! Stay away, and you can have your car serviced anywhere after the warranty as well.

From a dealer point of view,

Our plan covers all required services for your vehicle for the length of the warrenty. This includes oil changes (only at every 7,500 miles) tire rotations, fluid services and changes, etc......

It is true that it will not cover everything. The main things not covered are the things that might go wrong unexpectedly. Most of those things will be covered under warrenty.

In my opinion it is worth it because if you do go in the dealer for all the scheduled maintnences like your supposed to, you will spend a few hundred more dollars total than what you would on this plan.

BTW the price for the plan is negotiable. Tell them your interested, but the price is kind of high.

Yea, that price is a rip off. Besides I do my own oil changes w/ synthetic oil that normally would cost me $50 at a dealer or lube shop for $28 including oil filter. This is using Mobile 1 oil and a $6-10 oil filter including tax. I usually buy a case which includes 6 quarts of oil. Just my 2 cents, and I change my oil and filter every 4,500 miles. Instead of the 7,500 miles. It's not worth it to get it, unless you can get a huge drop in price.
