Magnefine trans filter dissected

Ive had a magnefine trans filter and cooler on my 04 5AT for about 9 months. Check my DIY thread (https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/116-diy-transmission-cooler-5at-magnefine-filter-lots-pics-754752/)

I replaced the filter and took it apart to see if it was catching anything. The filter is located before the cooler so it catches potential debris that can eventually clog your cooler.

I say its a very good 15$ investment if your running a cooler

hard to tell much- pull the paper open for real info on what its catchng
A lot of shrapnel could have been generated in the filter dissection

I agree^^ But surely it's doing more good than harm.

The filter is designed so that the fluid hits the magnet before it gets to the paper filter. Everything on the magnet is metal shavings. The filter has a hard plastic case so theres no shrapnel stuck on the magnet. The paper had lots of plastic shavings from cutting it open but no metal debris. The paper was actually very clean so it appears the magnet is grabbing everything first.

I thought the Type-S had a cooler on it already???

It's got a filter too. There's a DIY on replacement form the past few weeks somewhere. The filter is not listed as maintenance item; techs didn't even know there was one until somebody found it in a parts diagram.
