m3 vrs tl
how come my tl gets 9-14 miles per gallon and a m3 gets 18? yes my tires are all full at 40 psi and i dont go past 3 thousand rps. i drive most of the time 60mph on cruise and like i get red line happy on week ends but dont do it much... could this be that i have 20s, system(200 pounds) v2 intake with the air sensor swiched i guess i can say lol i dont know...
btw how much u thing a 08 m3 will cost in 2011

1) thats what the m3 is rated for by the epa, doesnt mean you will get that same mpg, its usually less. Plus youre driving an M3....youre going to be mashing it a lot more.
2) cars three years from now are going to be a lot cheaper. Gas prices are going to rise back up and there will be more emphasis on fuel economy. If any of the things I've been hearing about what Obama is considering for the future, cars may be taxed based on their emissions. more emissions = more taxes. At least thats what I heard/think. I personally am waiting until EV's start going into mass production before I buy my next car.

Something is really messing up your fuel economy. Do seafoam treatment, get a oil change if needed, change/clean air filter/CAI filter. You should be getting 18-25 city, and 26+ on highway. Cruise on 60 for me is 34MPG. For some reason a couple of days ago I was cruising 85MPH and was getting 33MPG.

i dont think it can be the air sensor cause it use to give me 32 mpg... by swiching the air sensor, does it mess out the computer in the car where it tells you how many mpg you getting?

I'm going to assume that the change in rim size and other mods will affect what the MID is going to show compared to MPG calculated at the pump.
If you have NAV there's a way to adjust rim and tire size from what I remember.

are you going by the mid or are you actually calculating at the pump?

put the IAT sensor back to the stock location. By moving it, the car runs a whole lot richer and dumps a lot of fuel. Without any other mods, a MPG loss of 1-2 has been reported.
Dragging that system in the trunk around doesn't help out a lot, remember, the more mass, the more power needed to move it.
The rims, the stock rim/tire combo weigh 55 pounds roughly. If your rims exceed that, you will get reduced MPG depending on how much they weight. Remember that this is sprung weight (the rims spin) and due to this it weights more than it really does.
In the city, it's expected to get about 18 MPG with the TL. Then subtract 2 MPG for the IAT which leaves you at 16. Then subtract 3 MPG for the weight additions and you are at 13 MPG roughly. Then with those times with the lead foot, etc. You get your number.
I suggest that you look into removing some weight like tuning down your system to 1 sub, etc.
Also do you run premium fuel? Didn't you have your motor replaced already?

your brakes are going to wear a lot faster as well with those 20's and the added mass in the trunk. If you are conerned about mpg's, Id ditch the 20's for a lighter wheel. Going to something lighter than stock might offset the system in the trunk a tad

I do local/city driving a lot to work and other places and I average 17mpg which I don't think is that great. I don't have a heavy foot either. On a highway trip though I was going 80mpg and averaged 30mpg, it was awesome!

9 - 14 MPG?
Thats nuts. Something is not right.
Is that a direct calculation or the MID estimate? If so, what does the MID say your avg speed is?
Try doing the actual calculation your self.
I get 18 MPG, almost all city (not NY, but still).

There a ton of threads about mpg, a lot of threads to search about. But I CAN'T understand your numbers!! I have a big ass heavy bandpass box in my trunk with 12s. I haven't given my car a racing lightweight diet by any means. I regularly average 26-28mpg combined....no joke. I can get 30mpg easily if it is pure highway. A lot has to do with my driving technique. Even if I drive like a complete ass the worst I can do is 18-20mpg. Something is wrong with your numbers.
