stop hauling ass.

i bet if you drove sixty all the time you would go over 30 mpgs easily.

Check the air pressure in your tires, 35 PSI is what I run. How many miles on the car?
If over 30K, a engine air-filter will be needed
if over 15k, a seafoam treatment will help out a lot
if over 65K, sparkplugs would be a good choice.

uhh wish i could help you you but im not sure how to fix this problem either. BUTTT, if you hear how bad my mileage is maybe that will make you feel a little bit better. I have a 07
TL-S and as far as my MID(onboard comp) is concerned I get 17 MPG. Believe it or not its actually less than that. I reset my trip odometer everytime I fill up, and i ALWAYS get at least 200 miles untill empty. The most ive ever gotten is probably 225 miles to empty. Anyway, if you divide 200 by 16(<---- thats how many gallons our cars take). It comes out to about 12 MPG. Soo ya as far as MPG, im not happy at all. But what can I say I love my car so who cares!!!!

i almost always get around 19 MPG during fill ups in the summer, and i always carry 3 person or more so my car is basically always full, meaning more gas needed to accel and to stop. I do 50% city and 50% freeway in the summer. in the winter i would get more because i carry less people and more freeway. but 12??? thats sounds like launching the car every stop light or something or something really wrong with your car.

I have an 06 with 22k on the clock and I just got 360 outta my last tank. I'm averaging 23-26mpg with 50-50 highway and city driving.

Don't haul ass, don't have a lot of excess weight in your car, coast to red lights and stop signs as much as possible, and use cruise control often (only when you can do so without frequently adjusting it or turning it off).

Also, listen to csmeance's advice.

lol, i put 50psi in all my tires, when i had like 30psi, i would get 16mpg all city, then i filled all my tires with 50psi and i get like 18mpg. WOOT, so now the tank goes empty in a week and something days. Before my gas wasted in a week. The extra psi really helps. Maybe u should put like 45psi. And u should always have ur rpm under 3,000. And try not activating vtec so much, well atleast that would make ur mpg a bit more worse.

And btw i forgot to add my when i filled my tires with 50 psi the car felt so much quicker ahh. No joke. I might think about putting nitrogen some time, since it's much lighter then air.

My 2008 TL nav has around 1,700 miles on it. I have made two road trips of 100 miles or more. On the Highway I have gotten 30 to 34 mpg. I drive between 65 and 80 (the speed limit on turnpikes in Oklahoma is 75) Around town I get around 19 to 21 mpg.
This milage is as good or better than I expected when I bougt the car. I hope to have a slight increase as the engine completes the break in process.

Jim

filling tires to their max = stupidity. Air expands when hot, so it can rise to almost 53-60 PSI depending on how hard you push your car. I see a new thread coming (TL's low profile tires nearly killed me)

Dude, "Air" is 73+% Nitrogen...it's not put in tires because of it's weight, do some research....Didn't someone give you the ID 10T card...?

To the OP...I just went on a 330 mile trip this weekend, 75-80mph the entire time, averaged 29mpg...1 tank of gas total.

I always get 22-25 mixed, I keep my tires between 35-38psi (checked weekly). Run only Shell 91 octane. Rarely rev above 2500....unless I'm felling playful. As long as you cruise on the Highway between 65-75 you should be fine on mpg. If I'm only driving an the HW I normally get between 27-32 depending on the incline and such.

The only conclusion I can reach is either your mix of city/hw is 80/20 or your playing with the gas too much.

I get 19-21 mpg in town and just returned from a 1,500 road trip and got 28-30mpg all highway averaging 70-75 mph. Pressure at 34 lbs. 2 adults and full load of luggage. All this in a '04TL w/ 40k on the clock.

I get low MPG.. but I am fully aware it's because I haul ass all the time... (driving record shows it, too..)

Either slow down.. or suck it up and be happy having low mpg.

Maybe some thief syphons gas from your TL when you're not looking? That would confuse the MID and cause your mpg to go waaaay down.

actually, when gas prices first broke $4 a gallon, ALOT of people were having their gas stolen... like places that have a fleet of vans, people would come at night, punch a hole in the tank, and drain the fuel...

hell...25 gallons x 4 a gallon = $100 in free fuel!

Hey, 12 MPG guy, you probably only fill 13 gallons. It's not 16, unless you're driving til your car starts to shake noticably. (what I mean is lack of gas. It will cause the car to semi-stall. There could be a better description, but I can't think of it).

yep. Einstein needs to look at the pump or his receipt to see how many gallons he's actually putting in the tank. Then, divide his miles by the gallons he just purchased. Get that, Einstein?

+1 on the whole STOP hauling ass thing.

I have a 04 TL 5AT with 65k miles. I'm almost hitting 300 miles on my first full tank after seafoaming for the first time 2 weeks ago. The needle is on empty which means I have 3 more gallons left on reserve. 300/13 = ~23mpg. Before I was getting only 275 miles roughly 21mpg. I drive 50/50 city and highway. Now I guess the next step is to replace the spark plugs.

My 340mi trip over the weekend netted me 29.2 MPG.

This was with 100lbs of crap in the car due to the long trip.

Overall speed was 65mph, but I was averaging 75-80mpg @ 2.1k rpm

If that's how you are calculating your mileage you're retarded. Did your car coast into the gas station as you ran out of fuel? If you want to know your real gas mileage, follow these steps.

1)Fill the tank all the way and reset the trip odometer.
2)Drive until the tank is as empty as you are comfortable with before filling up.
3)Fill the tank back up and SEE HOW MANY GALLONS IT ACTUALLY TOOK.
4)Divide the miles travelled by the number of gallons it took to fill up.
5)This is your actual MPG

I'm pretty sure your car has a 17 gallon tank.

Yep, 29-30mpg over 400 miles each way this past week heading to the Outer Banks in NC. Loaded with a bunch of stuff. Definitely change your driving style, that's the biggest influence on mpgs. Then check all of your maintenance items, air filters, plugs, tire pressure etc.

Thats the capacity. You have approximately 2.5 gallons in reserve. Even after your MID says miles to empty 0, you can still get to a gas station.

Travel at a constant speed for example 70mph on the highway while on cruise, You can easily get 32 mpg. rolling on 20s in highway/city (50/50) Cruise on the highway set to 70mph. I can get 29mpg.

To maximize gas, AVOID WOT, keep RPMS below 2800. And you will be straight.

TL|GTX-Cant wait to see you get a blow out and then B*%#$ about it on Zine. NEVER RUN 50PSI!!!!!!!!!!. Depending on wheel size change accordingly. On Stocks I ran 36, 19s Ran 39, Now on 20s Run 42

If you drive "hauling ass" style, I wouldn't expect really good gas mileage. Dry a bit more conservative and I'm sure you'll see better figures.

75-80MPG! That is an impressive number lusid, you must have one of those hybrid TLs.

Check your style of driving your car and what you bring with you. Maybe there is something that you can take out to make your car lighter.
