Talking love how the engine and tranny works - 11kmi,5AT

I am enjoying my TL even more these days. Everyday when I finish from school, I have chance to merge into 50MPH road just around corner. I put my SS in 2nd and keep it around twisty ramp then gun it when I reach straight merging lane.

The sound and cooperation between engine and tranny are so smooth, I very often forget to upshift and hit rev limiter. If I do command shift from 2nd to 3rd, it shifts really quick too. Auto tranny must be anticipating upshift when I reach that RPM. I can clearly hear air intake cuts off for a brief moment then starts sucking air again in 3rd gear. It is just pure awesome moment and very happy I have this car and drive to the school.

Me too!! No complaints about tranny or throttle lag on my 5AT either.
I came from a manual transmission (Integra), but don't even bother with the SS since my '05 TL seems pretty responsive with about 7,000 miles on it.

Since this is about AT tranny.... Is it possible to rev match on our 5AT when we down shift in SS mode?

O i forogt, when I'm at low speed I crank music all the way up to 40(Jessica Simpson DVD-V converted to DVD-A). When I'm about to merge, I turn off the music just to hear the air intake and the exhaust.

about rev matching. You could do it manually after you get the feel of how AT shifts. It is not built in to the tranny in ours.

Yup. It can be done and I do it daily especially when I drop it from 4th to 2nd. It's not that hard once you get a feel for it. It can be virtually seamless if you practice.

Wow 4th to 2nd you must be revving the fuk out of your engine to make the synchromesh match on that down shift. Or you are breaking like a mutha fuka before a turn.

On that track I have never been able to do a 4th to 2nd down shift. But on my R1 that’s a different story. But of course I need to remember you are only driving on the street.
