Lots of Snow

Well, here in PA, we are about to get dumped on. I'd be interested to see just how people are doing with the almost 2 feet of snow we will be getting here on the East coast. How did your TL perform??
PS...go Birds! and Steelers.

The stock tires suck for snow and so so in good weather... Check them on tirerack and see the ratings. You might be able to get around but... I bought a tire/wheel package from tirerack. Got a 16 inch package.

The only problem is that you have to drive a bit differently when the roads are clear...

Snow! Lucky guys! We haven't had a flake here in the Puget Sound area. Last week it was in the 20s, this week we had several days in the high 60s. Go figure. Maybe its just as well, cuz I don't want to try the Bridgestones under slippery conditions. Hope the snow doesn't cause you any problems.

PS Go Pats. lol

No snow here in FL either. It's supposed to go to 74 degrees today! Sorry to rub it in, but as a former Philadelphian now living here I don't envy you spending a weekend shoveling. BTW - we still have family there and go north at least once a year (in the summer). My daughter is the marketing director at the VF convention center. PS - go Eagles/Steelers. We want an all-PA Super Bowl.

Snow coming in today ... stock tires weren't too bad .. VSA worked for half the trip then both lights came on and stayed on .. seems like I lost VSA. Still handled well, but I grew up in snow and have a fair idea of how to drive in it.

Hi all members. I am new here. It is about 2" unplowed snow in my development , I just took mywife's car out for a good 15 minutes drive with Dunlop Graspic DS-2 wheels installed on it. The tires had excellent traction in snow without any problem. So far so good.
By the way, my dealer had replaces a new front seat covers a month ago. I do not know how long the seat cover will hold without butt print.

Snow!

Its snowing in Toronto too, pretty badly too. I have to go out later, I'm pretty sure the drive will be better in the TL (stock tires, but only 3 month old car), but I'll have to park on the street for a few hours. Its a residential street and pretty narrow, with the snow still coming down, I wonder if I should take my TL or old '94 Civic. Any suggestions?

Well here in NY we got a lot of snow today and it is still coming and coming...So that is very good for kids, but my TL and others I saw in roads today did very poor.
VSA works almost every 20-50 sec.
Car is very unstable and slides from right to left (VSA on/off, on/off and so on)
I had Maxima 95 before and I can compare. Say in scale 10 (10 best - 1 worst) Maxima did 7.5, but Acura TL on OEM tires did 3. See above (sidings, very bad traction, braking)

I love TL, but it was not made well for winter.

oppnyc,

I agree. I came back from Westchester and got on the local streets, VSA started to light up as I make a turn....The car slided, luckily I had enough space not to hit any parked cars. The stock tires sucks so bad in snow...No tractions..My ABS was kicking in too....

Thumbs up

As neuronbob has confirmed before, I've found that my 04TL with Falken 512 are doing pretty good today. We just returned from NY upper state a moment ago, and my VSA indicator was flashing hundreds of times during the whole trip. My car was stable and firm on snowy roads. Lots better than EL42s.

Just returned from downtown Manhattan and 1st trip in real snow. Neuronbob was right. The Falken 512's held the road pretty good, even on the snowy left lane of the FDR Drive. Though they're still not snow tires, I felt safe, that is except of course for some of the hot shot SUV jerks that got close and still swerved in, out, and around like they often do.

Fortunately, I never got to experience the Bullshitstone EL-42's in this type of mess.

Drove in 6"unplowed snow just 10 minutes ago, no problem with traction. ABS kicked in when come to stop, VSA does not flashing.(Dunlop Graspic DS-2). It is only Q speed rated (<99 MPH)

In Highway, I have driven the car up to 75 MPH no problem (with dry road). I can not wait until March so I can put on falken or Pzero Nero.

Still riding on the original Bullshitstones? That would explain it.

just drove through the snow earlier....the tires were okay as long as i didn't go too fast....I think as long as you go slow in the snow...the tires will give you no problems..and remember to brake early.

I was planing to get some Tiramisu on the restaurant of Upper West Side and buy some stuff from Zabar's 4 hours ago... but since TV news continued to play that the spokeman of OEM was wondering why lots of ppl driving around under this severe weather crisis... I decided... "stay home"... "The city has declared a snow emergency, meaning drivers should avoid standing or parking on snow emergency streets."

"In New York, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the city's modest goal was to have everything cleared up by the Monday morning rush hour. The city's 8 million residents were advised to keep their cars off the road for the weekend as New York's army of snow removers tried to clear the 6,300 miles of roadway."

I always try not to drive during a storm. And now based on what I'm hearing, I'll have to trade out the piece of shit EL's if I do ever go out in one. I never left my house today and tomorrow should be a piece of cake since most roads should be cleared by then.

Go PA teams!

PS..thanks guys for the input.

DUHH!!! That's what it's supposed to do. When the VSA computer senses yaw and steering wheel position don't match it starts braking individual wheels to pull the car back into line. The jerking sensation you feel is the VSA correcting the line the wheels are tracking. It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. You want to feel "unstable"? Turn the VSA off and go back out in those same conditions.
The TL has wide, low profile tires that are not meant for driving in 12-15 inches of snow. I'm sure your 95 Maxima didn't. If you drive in those conditions get some damn snow tires.
