Lost to a Cobalt SS SC

Really close.

I took off at the light he either wasn't ready or just got a bad launch, I had 2-3 cars on him. I let up and he passed me by a car from 40 -70. Awesome mid range, as he just reeled me in.

Looked up the stats, it is a 205 hp I4 SC, I have I/H and couldn't believe it. Waved at him as I hit my street to turn.

Strange. I think it was me letting up to get him back even where he took the momentum, but I just couldn't get past him from 40-70.

Don't the magazines have tests on them running low 14's at 98 to 99mph? That would be enough to take a TL.

Don't feel too bad, the weight probably played a huge factor. Remember, TL's are HEAVY as f**k!

I've been wondering how I would do against a SCed Cobalt. I've got a Type S with I/H/E/P and last time I dynoed I had 240 whp. I just haven't found a Cobalt that was willing to run.

Should be a good race. I'll bet the pulley helps.
I didn't get a really good shot, but even if I had, I think I would have had him walking on me a bit in 3rd and 4th

I searched and found this thread because the same thing happened to me tonight. I couldnt belive the powerband on this thing and came home to look up some stats and found what I already suspected. I wonder if the S-type would fair any better.

Sc'd Cobalt

Yeah, the supercharged Cobalt SS's are pretty amazing. My friend in high school had one and was beating Mustang GT's all day long (not the 05s+). I havent talked with him in awhile, but assuming hes still stock and if i can get some new tires i'll call him up for a race and see how it goes. I have a 02 TL Type-S. I'm pretty sure i'll lose, i'm just curious about how much i will lose.

They are quick because they have a S/C in there.... but still you should have been able to least beat him till 100.... then pulls some more.

I raced one about 6 months ago, but I have a charger in mine as well, I smoked him fairly bad.

Numbers for both show the SS SC winning. On the street, the numbers proved out. I think it would be a bit tighter if we had both begun at the same time. I pushed it then let up which micht have dropped my revs to allow him the lead. It would be interesting to get one on the track or catch one to go with from a stop and a roll.

the Colbalt was designed as a street tuner vehicle meaning consumer buys add ons the factory planned for-built the car to utilize, but doesnt put there as OE.
Computer Engine tuners and secret intake parts, even guys switching badges just to screw with you so you think they have nothing, imagine that!
heheheheheh

Even if you get beat by one..or a SRT...remember..it's STILL a Colbalt and still a Neon.....even a Civic hatch that runs 10's with a driver sitting on a milkcrate is still a 94 CIVIC HATCH....I'd rather have full leather, heated seats, wood dash and a gazillion other things in my car.....

I raced twice last firday.

1. 60ish-90ish(able to down shift to 2nd gear powerband) won by half car but I can tell he is keep coming and coming closer.

2. 70-120ish(3gear 4k not powerband) he pull me by 1 car.

cant believe they are that fast.

Great point! It's still a bit embarrassing when you lose to one, but thinking that way def. helps.

dam.........after reading this thread makes me wonder............my GF is going to be getting a Cobalt SS supercharged pretty soon and i dont want it to get to her head that her car is faster than mine........i think im going to have to buy my 07 TL-S sooner than i thought.......i will not have her beat me in a race it will destroy my ego completely.........although i dont know why we would ever line up at the same light or be at the same spot with two cars...... but on the brightside im going to be able to drive her car and kill some good ol ricers.

Agreed. I like my Acura vs a Chevy. However, I need to fuind that Cobalt SS SC and get him to race a good race where we both go same time and I think I will take him. Especially after I (trancemission helps me) add the pulley.

Just tangled with one yesterday!

From 80 to 120 twice! The first one I pulled on him from 3th gear; one car length by 110 mph. Second one he hung alittle better, but pulled on him again. If I didn't have my mods. I don't think I could hang. Damn they're fast!

AEM CAI, Outlaw Thermal Spacers, Underdriven pulley, and Thermo-Tec thermal wrap for the CAI. From my dyno, I got over 10 hp and 11 tq.

The yellow Cobalt that I raced had some funny looking exhaust tip, so I don't know if he had mods or not. From what I'm hearing in the thread, probably not.

I see you're in Va Beach also. What year is your car? My dyno was around over 241 hp and 222 tq. Where did you get yours dynoed? I went to All Aspects in Chesapeake.
