Loser!

Well the TL at least.....I have just an exhaust system. I plan on adding intake and a j-pipe. I thought the exhaust would give such a big gain but nope just a little. Well to make a long story short...I raced against my friends toyota Avalon 2007 and i could never beat him. I also got smoked by a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe V6, which i belive had intake because you can hear it. What could be the problem? The avalon has like 10000K miles and the Accord has little miles because its new. My car has 60K miles... could that be the problem? The engine is too tired ? Do I need more performance upgrades?

By the way the Avalon just smokes me on the take off because of the TL low torque

wow...i know they've got 270hp, but i would've thought the TL would beat the Accord...my dad has an '07 Avalon and i figured the TL would put up a good fight...i know they're quick, but they're also a boat...

i don't think 60,000 miles is your problem...i've got 82,555 and mine still has lots of pep in it...are you sport-shifting? vsa on or off? just curious as to how you're driving...

...by the way, i've got the same car as you down to the color...i've only got an intake and pulley on mine...looking forward to my first race against an '08 Accord coupe...

The VSA is off, and I didnt SS for the Honda Accord Coupe. I SS for the Avalon. As for the avalon being a boat, it is very very quick....look at the S550 thats a real quick boat. Good luck against the accord coupe, it is a very quick car, but i really belive that guy had intake because you can hear it screaming

2008 Accord Coupes are fast.

Apparently, the Avalon's 0-60 times are 6 flat w/ a quarter mile of 14.6. I could see the Avalon taking a TL if you messed up your launch.

You could have probably taken the Avalon from a 50mph roll, it seems their top end is a little bit slower than the TLs.

you do know you're comparing a 5.5L V8 to a 3.5L V6...right? ..i would hope the S550 was a very quick boat with that engine...

anyways, always SS when racing...and from a dig, get your revs up to about 1200...i find it's just enough power for a solid take-off and doesn't squeal your tires or anything...maybe change your oil if it's around 30% on your MID...i change mine and notice a pretty decent difference in acceleration and shift response...

Next time you do your oil, go to Royal Purple 5W 20 / 30. Not sure if it's psychological or not .. but it feels a bit more peppy.

Also, my car is turning 78,000 miles tomorrow .. it doesn't feel old and tired at all .

do you by any chance know if you raced a Accord coupe V6 6MT or 5AT? the 6MT puts down more than 240whp and can do 14s@102.5mph. In comparison your TL 5AT would do 14.8@96mph. Huge difference. Also, new camry V6, Avalon, ES350 are all pretty quick and can do 14.3-14.6s.

you're talking about the newer avalons right? i dunno what you're talking about. off the line, i win all the time, and stay ahead by car lengths. only thing i've done: exhaust and cold air. i use mobil 1 with a k&n filter if that means anything. type of gas is also a HUGE factor; i swear by it. for example, costco gas gives me an even race with my friend's rx-8. chevron on the other hand gives me at least a car's length; premium always of course. try taking him from a roll - use the ss, and make sure you rev match before you begin to get ahead.

Also, don't forget about your big heavy rims...they rob whp blind...

But I'm very surprised about the Avalon smacking you around....

His friend must launch better than the avalons you raced.

The Accord Coupe will make short work of the 3G TL, they weigh less and have a 3.5L motor, its a no brainer that they're faster.

Blazing GT, you should've bought a 6MT. With full bolt ons on a TL stick, the '08 Accord Coupe would be beatable. I'd like to run one myself.

the tl is a slow car compared to fast cars. But when you compare it to other normal sedans; accord v6, camry v6, avalon, es 350, etc.... it can hold its own. Compared to cobras, vettes, sti, evo, 335i, etc... it has no chance. On a side note the proud 6 speed owners have a car that is probably no more the .5 in the 1/4 faster then the auto tl-s. My guess is that most tl-s owners prefer the auto cuz they didn't buy the car for drag racing but as a entry luxury sedan. For me I wanted an auto for a daily driver. It seems that a large majority of the racing I read about on this forum reminds me of a bunch of rice civic talk. Not sure I understand it but then again maybe there are many younger drivers on these forums (under 24). I guess I have come here from a different type of forum evolutionm.net and did expect so many to look for street racing.
