Post Looking at a TL

Hey all im new to the TL forums

Im looking to sell my BMW z4 and i am quite interested in the TL.
the reason im selling the z4 is, i just dont like the 2 seats, and the ride is awful. also repair costs are astronomical with bmw.

so one of the big things i want to know is how easy is it to repair a TL and are the costs pretty high?

what major problems does the tl have?

if anyone can give me some pointers or tips on what to look for that would be great.

Well speaking from my own experience, my 00 TL has been very reliable fro me over the years. matter of fact, the biggest out of pocket expense was the 105k-mark timing belt/water pump change. overall, Honda should last longer than BMW, esp. from the electronics parts.

Good luck with your search !

I'm the wrong person to say this as I flip cars every year, but the TL has one of the highest reliability ratings in Consumer reports. IT's biggest faults are fit and finish things, like squeaks and rattles then the occasional tranny issue, although rare and isolated. The car mechanically is awesome!

Well all cars has its issues so you take for what is worth when people says about fit and finish, squeaks, rattles, tranny.

I had 1999 TL, no rattles/squeaks/fit and finish, transmission changed, all cover under warranty

and now I have 2005 TL, some rattles/fit and finish issue, but all cover under warranty.

And the car is awesome overall

I owned a BMW 535i once and liked the car, but the maintenance of the car nickeled and dimed me to death. Little things kept breaking down and I always felt like I had to get them fixed because, hey...it's a BMW. Well, I understand that this is still the case with BMW. I have previously owned 2 Honda Accords. Very reliable, runs forever. So this time, I decided to step up to Acura. First scheduled maintenance is at 100,000 miles with the TL. Classy car, sporty drive. I could have gotten another BMW, but chose the TL Type S instead. You get more car for less money with Acura.

Steven Bell i completely agree with your post on BMW. I love the Z4 but the repair costs are very high, and i am still under warranty, though i only have a couple months left on it. BMW had to work on my transmission that would have cost about 1,600, and right now they need to replace a front headlight that has moisture on it bout $400 they say. they recently charged me for a wheel for $500, i ended up telling them to send it back and got the same wheel at another place for $78 by exchanging the damaged wheel. My uncle has one of the 3 series ordered from Germany, loves the car but says he will never buy another bmw because of the repair costs. He makes a ton of money (he is going to barcelona to celebrate his 60th birthday lol) , so im suprised its a problem with him.

Another BMW probably wouldve prevented him from celebrating his 60th Bday in Barcelona!!! LOL!

But to answer you question, I doubt the black wood trim comes in the 05 model. I've never seen it before but I could be wrong. Just go ahead and get an 08, then you'll have the black trim!
