Looking at a high mileage 6 speed
I plan on looking at this car, should I be worried about the mileage? Normally, I wouldn't care with Honda products but, I don't know much about the third gens. What should I look out for?

this car looks a little rough. the interior is worn badly (the steering wheel and the seats). the exhaust has been modified as well. the owner bolted some POS exhaust on there (it's not stock, nor is it any of the reputable aftermarkets). the headlights are hazed over (could just be the angle of the pic). shift knob has been swapped out. something tells me the car has been modded and parted out. with the possibility of being driven pretty hard. depending on the driver, not sure on the health of the clutch.
i'd pass. there is a reason he's asking for such a low number.
as far as looking at 6MT in the 3G TL. there is/might be some 3rd gear notchiness (known issue). otherwise, not a lot on the MT. AT you need to look out for the tranny on the early 04-05's. less so with later production models. mileagewise, if the car is well taken care of it'll keep going. if the car has been abused...well...who knows. if you are comforatble wrenching on your own car then certainly it won't be an issue. if you're on a tight budget and looking for a reliable ride, find something better.
you can always look at this one and just report back to let us know what it really looks like.

Thanks for the info.
I have no problem working on my own cars, I've been doing that for years.
I honestly thought he was asking way too much. There are other 6 speeds around his price with 30-40k miles less. It just happens to be in my town and thought maybe I could get it for $6-6500.

Go take a look at it...the guy said KBB was around 10K...he's asking <8K.
biggest things that should have been done are the 105k service. the car is at 156k mi. i hope he got the service performed. carfax (i know it won't show everything, but at least you'll have an idea of some of the car's history)?

Let regret fade away.
I picked up a 2007 tl-s, 140k, one owner, off lease, mint condition with all service records and 105k service done, fully maintained at the dealership, for $11,000. For that condition/year, I would stay away. Care is much more important than mileage. Spend more and have peace of mind, or spend less and have $ for the worst. Just my 2c.

I'd start with a phone call to ask the title status and get the vin#. If he's the least bit hesitant to give either, I'd run away....

car was pretty beat inside and out. the "owner" is a body shop that just started to sell cars. he states he picked it up from a local subaru dealership as it was a trade-in on a new sti. it had an aftermarket intake and exhaust too.
here is a video of the engine. seems very loud to me.

Ya, sorry, didn't mean to thread jack your post crxgator, it was more to show you what kind of deals you should be looking for. I second that that engine sounds ROUGH! I would run away at any price, IMO. Not to mention all the little cosmetic things would bug me personally. I hate worn steering wheels, etc. 2005's with 125k go for about 6k in my area.
