wow! thats a great price. i got a quote for solarguard on 7 windows w/o moleskin for $165.

do you have navi? if so, did you notice any difference with your navi? i heard you get lower reception when you use metalic tint i/o ceramic.

Yes I have the navi......they used solarguard NR "non-reflective" so it does not interfere with the navi's reception. So the navi works just as before!

I'll take a few pics today at lunch to show you the quality.

I got Formula One tint for $300. If you're interested I'll find out where it was from (somewhere in Southern Cali--I forget)

Thanks. But, I think I'm gonna go with the solarguard RN since it's cheaper and does not affect the navi. Originally, I wanted to go with ceramic since I know for sure it will not interfere with the navi, but it looks like this Solarguard RN will also do the trick.

Thanks guys!

Carlos did my tint almost two weeks ago as well. They actually used the 3m tint on mine, which is non-metallic, non-dyed tint. $160 with moleskins. Came out excellent. I highly recommend Best in Tustin.

Looks good Lembowski. After your first reply, I went ahead and got my car tinted with the solargard NR 50% all around.

So far, I am noticing that my navi is picking up fewer satellites than before. Not sure if it might be better after the tint completely dries.

How are you checking how many satellites your NAV is tracking to?

Anyone know any local stores that sells the "moleskin" felt? I rolled down my window for the first time after tinting my car, and I already got a scratch...

Did you go to Best in Tustin? He used 3m film on mine, and I have not had any troubles with my NAV. I know that Solargard makes metallic films, so I would wonder if that is what was used.

Hmmmmmm.......

No, actually I went to a local shop around the corner. But it sounds like you got a great deal from Best in Tustin. I paid $180 w/o moleskins for solargard. Looks like I should have taken a drive to tustin...

Now to get some moleskins installed before I ruin my new tint...

Ugh......I know that it is just a piece of felt. Maybe you could go over to Best and see what they would charge you for them to put them on for you. Taking the door off is a bia. I have no scratches what so ever......I even put in a new grounding system so my windows fly up and down now!

Yeah. Carlos can pull the sills without pulling the panels. Probably take them about 20 minutes to do the felt on the sills.

So, I just called my tint shop, and asked about the felt, and he claims that the felt does not work. "All it does is get tangled in the doors, and get glue all over." He says that the best solution is to buy this spray that he offers which "coats" the tint with a layer of silicon, which makes it smooth, and dust won't scrath it.... Oh, and also buy a can of compressed air for your computer keyboard, and occasionally spray it in your door panel to remove the dust.....

Yeah, and for $500 bux, I can protect your interior so it never stains. Oh, and for $1,000 bux, I can make your paint so you never have to wax it.

That sounds like someone that is trying to recover from the fact that he doesn't do it.

Sorry you got hooked up with them!

Yeah, exactly. I think I'm just gonna look for someone to sell me some moleskin felt, and install it myself.

Well if Best was $160 with moleskin, I would assume that it would run ya $50-70 just for the moleskin install. An I would think that is more than worth it. Someone here sells moleskins precut for like $35 and then you put them on. I would rather pay the extra $40 and have someone that knows what they are doing install it. I mean tint is an investment sort of....... I think this is a time that you shouldn't think about your wallet......cause if you mess it up what do you have? Messed up windowns then you'll have to pay someone to fix the problem, which will cost you alot more in the long run.

Thanks for the advice. I will be calling Best tomorrow to check their price for just the moleskin install.

I put 35% on the front two and 20% around the back. I've gotten a few compliments already on how good it looks. This is the first tint job where the tint covers the entire window. Usually there is a gap at the top of the window, but there is no gap on this job. It looks like the window is just naturally that color! I would recomment "Best Tinting" to anyone......price and work done is second to none that I have seen.

I did the same, and received the same compliments. I was at a light next to a TL in Irvine two days ago, and the poor guy had the rear wing window tinted incorrectly. I gave him Carlos' info, and told him he is shaming the car by not doing it right...... Hopefully, he has now seen the light.

Thanks! I had high expectations of Best and made sure Carlos was there. Their facility looked very professional and Carlos did a great job in 2 hours.

Guess I'm ready for the SoCal meet later this month.

The real question is:
datmrman and lembowski, did you guys put any tint on your windshield? how about the sun roof window? how does 25% rear window look from the mirror at night?

Thanks

I also scheduled with carlos for next next saturday! cant wait, my current plan is 35% all around, but i think that might be a little light, let me know what you guys think

I had my TL tinted by Carlos at Best too. Quality of work was excellent -- much better than the two other tint jobs I've had on my other cars. However, if you want to get your front side windows tinted darker than 35% you will have to look elsewhere. He will not put 20% or 5% on the front. I had originally planned on getting 5% all around but ended up with 35% on the front sides and 5% on the back because he informed me he wouldn't do that dark on the front.

Just a heads up if you want something darker than 35% on the front. If you don't, then I definitely recommend Best Tint!

No tinting on the front windshield. The sunroof seems like it already has tint on it from the factory, so no additional tint there either. The price of $160 includes the 3 windows on each side (front, rear passenger, and quarter window), the rear windshield, and felt.

There is a display sample there for you to check out. I originally wanted 35% all around, but I like the rear a little darker but not too dark. So I went with 35% fronts, 20/25% rears. No problems at night time. I see fine out from the rear. CA streets are usually well lit anyway.

As you can tell from the picture, the shades are very similar and the rears appear darker only at certain angles.

Good luck with your decision, but you can't really go wrong with Best Window Tinting.

I have 25% in the back and 35% in the front Looks great. Carlos has done my last 3 cars and Best even did my house. 5 years on the house tint and no problems I would highly recommend Best.

BTW I didn't need moleskin on my house windows. LOL

Looks like Carlos will be busy with 2 TLs :P I gotta take my new baby over there this weekend

Oh, I'm probably going to do 35% Fronts, 25% rears, and 20% back - darn CA sun and my ebony interior aren't jiving hehe

Datmrman and King of Pain,
My friend said it will look weird with two tint levels front and back (he drives a coupe 3 series tho), if you have time, could you please do me a favor and take a few more shots of your tinted windows during day time? I really wanna follow your route with the 35%+20% combo!

Thanks alot for the input guys, you guys rock!

BTW, did you guys had to specifically ask for application for the moleskins? OR does carlos already know its included in the $160?

Thanks again!

Carlos knows the felt is included, but it doesn't hurt to tell them you specifically want it.

Pics I've posted on here:
