Looking to buy

Im looking to buy the type-s manual. I've owned the dreaded 2000 TL with the junk transmission and the bullet proof CL-s 6 speed. Anything I should lookout for in terms of issues or bad years with these cars?

Thanks Marco.

Are all black interiors cut with the grey center piece on the seats?

Any fun features to look for?

Did brembo come on all?

Brembos are on all of them. If you can find a kinetic blue pearl Type S, that colour is exclusive to the Type S.

I really don't think you can go wrong with a type-s 6mt. If you are looking to stick with Acura and want a manual transmission, then it's a no brainer - try to scoop a KBP for sure though.

Elijah, you're going to have to be patient with this search. Best of luck-keep an eye on Cars.com and AutoTrader.com.

If you have to ship, try to get a shipper with a covered bed.

There is some truth in that but it doesn't mean it possible. I'm leaving a company that provides a car so patience ins't something I can afford to have in this situation. I found 2 in LA. Ill go check them out this weekend. If I had time, I'd wait for the right color. I'll only have the car for a few years, maybe Ill get the right color next time.

Thank you to all who chimed in.

what makes the Type-S so much better than a base TL with manual tranny? I'm new here and looking at a 2004 6MT with Nav.

Its not necessarily better, its just a different model. So first of all it's an 07/08 which in itself has many changes and updates compared to the older 04-06's. Secondly, the Type S is sort of a step up in looks and performance. Although its not as drastic performance wise as say a BMW M3, but think of it how the M3 is to a 3 series (as an example only). It has interior and exterior changes, different engine, manual tranny available, different brakes, exhaust etc etc. do a search! ;-)

And to the OP

The Type S is a solid car. There are really no common issues with the exception of 3rd gear issues on the 6mt's. That problem is typically 100% fixed by a simple fluid change. As far as I know the 07 and 08 Type S are unchanged. The 6mt Type S are pretty difficult to find especially if you don't want black. You will almost without a doubt have to be willing to travel to get one. A great method I have used multiple times to get a car is buy a cheap one way plane ticket and drive the car home. You can go as far as almost 800 miles away from your home and get home all in a single day. It's fun, and allows you to get the right car.
As far as colors go, black is the most common Type S color, followed by silver, white, and carbon bronze. Kinetic Blue Pearl is a sweet color that is exclusive to the Type S which is pretty cool. Lastly is Morrocan Red Pearl which is the rarest Type S color.
There are two interior colors available. Taupe, which has a very light gray seat, center console, inner door panel, and headliner color with everything else black. When clean it looks nice, but I have been seeing some used taupe interiors that look downright gross now. The seats are very light colored. Second choice is ebony/silver. The entire interior is jet black including headliner which IMO looks awesome. The center seat inserts are a very dark silver color and matches the Type S aluminum accents perfectly. No matter what you go with you really can't go wrong with the Type S.

Goodluck with your search!

the fact that its newer lol. and probably a bit nicer overall.

but honestly, I'd rather have a 6mt base TL than an Automatic type-s.

That is an ambigous statement without any relative information stating why it was bad. Was it maintain before and/or during your ownership? Overall the TLs (base or type-s) are solid vehicles.

Just like JTS stated.

Anecdotal statement...spend some time on other car forums and see how many threads pop up weekly with people having engine/tranny problems and you will understand why in comparison the type-s is bulletproof.

Pointing to a "bad" TL-S doesn't do anything to show that the '07-'08 were bad years. Dude, if you really don't like your car then I am positive that someone here in the forums will take it off of your hands, no matter what problems you've had with it. If you'd really be happier with your '97 Civic, then so be it.

here you go... The rarest of all the Type-S models. Its MRP, 6MT, with black interior. Also comes with the ASpec lip kit and trunk tray. Plus Carmax will ship this vehicle to your closest carmax for you at a very small fee.

I noticed this about that MRP one in the carfax link above, but couldnt edit my post in time.
From what I can tell that could be a real nice find. Only two owners, no reported accidents. I can see the VIN label on the rear bumper which believe it or not is hard to find a car that hasnt had its bumpers resprayed or replaced. I did see it has been debadged, which I personally dont like, but means the car could have possibly been modded and put back to stock, or it could be all original but they just decided to remove the badges. Lastly, I see it has the front and rear aspec, but the side skirts are not. I know those are hard to come by, but IMO thats just kind of an incomplete mod. Either way the car looks nice! Maybe a forum member can snatch that one up before its gone.

Yes avoid them, they are crooks and just horrible business.... I've gone there to check out an 07 CBP type-s and the guy who helped me was a total D***. He glanced at me since I was young, and didnt think I could buy a car even though I own an 05 TL(im second owner) and a job. I was willing to pay majority cash for car and finance through my bank for remaining.

He simply didnt want to do business, so I left and a buddy of mine bought a truck from them and it broke down a few days later, went back and they said it wasnt there problem. (along those line).

Horrible business.

$22k for a 07 with 75k miles? No thank regardless of MT or not. Carmax by far is the most expensive place ever, they probably take that car as trade in around $10k-$12k. I go agree with James about the debadge.

^ I know

CarMax does sell them pretty high. I remember when I bought my TL from them 05 6mt with 30k for 22k out the door but there was a 08 Type-S 6mt with 44k and they wanted 30K. As much as I wanted (it was a black one) I said F that.

Congrats and enjoy it.

Buddy of mine just saw an 08 CBP type-s (5AT) with 128,000 miles go for $12.5k locally in Cleveland. I got mine for $15k OTD (including fees and all that junk) in February 2012 with 129,000 miles. These cars hold their value well! I am curious to see the average market price when the TLX comes out.

Open the trunk, and the bumpers VIN label is located just below and to the left of the passenger side taillight. I was able to see just a small part of it in one of the pictures, but in person or full pictures if the VIN label is there it's completely in the open and visible. It's just nice to see it there because if its missing you it's not the original bumper. I have also seen the label there, but painted over. All the other VIN labels are easily visible as well such as the trunk kid, doors, and rear quarters as well as the hood. The only ones difficult to see are the front quarters because they are located on the inside of the panel. In order to see those you have to remove part of the inner fender lining near the wheels. The front bumper label is located to the left or right of the grill. Pop the hood and slightly pry up the black plastic cover panel and you will see it.
