Looking at a '05 TL

Hey guys,

I am currently looking at a 2005 Acura TL. It is an automatic, without navi, with just under 73,000 miles (too many?). With summer and winter tires (I need them here in Quebec, Canada) in good condition. The breaks were just done. Power steering hose was fixed (under a recall I believe?). The seller said that nothing else was fixed, which kind of scares me - shouldn't it have gotten other repairs yet, or is that just my Mazda past? Gave it a test drive, haven't had it inspected yet. Couldn't seem to find anything wrong with it, aside from a rattle in the rear left side of the car. Asking price is $8,400 (not much more in US$). I plan on offering $7,000. Possibly $6,000, the dude is desperate. The interior and exterior are rather beat up. Leathers are pretty used. Minor scratches an dents everywhere. On slightly more major dent close to a rear wheel, but nothing I don't think I can handle. I plan on keeping this vehicle for a year or two.

I'm looking for info on upcoming repairs, reliability, issues, etc... Any input would be appreciated!

At this point, I'm hesitating between a car like this and a simple more recent Civic with less mileage. I would prefer the TL, but am kind of nervous about bad surprises...

Thanks guy,
Cheers

Honestly, that car sounds like a serious piece of junk. Don't bother. Don't be a baller on a budget. For that money you're getting what used to be a nice car that is now trashed. If you see how neglected the interior and exterior is, how do you think the transmission and engine will be, along with other mechanical stuff? Think he maintained it properly? I doubt it.

For that money you can get a nicer integra, RSX or Civic, with way more modding capabilities. I strongly urge you to stay away!

For all you know, that transmission can grenade tomorrow. And then it's a very pricey fix- at least half the value of the car, judging by another recent thread on here about a grenaded transmission. Would you be willing to drop at least 2k into a beat up car you just paid 6500 for? That would get you half way to an engine swap on a civic...
