Question Looking @ 2005 without Navi?

Whats a good price on one and some feed back on my Q's three questions below.
I'm considering on getting a 2005 TL without Navi that I may be able to get for a good price with 23,000 on it and is in really good shape...but has a salvaged title since it was rear ended. My brother-in-law (who has a repair shop and sells used cars for a living and use to manage/work at a local Honda/Acura dealer repair shop) purchased this car from a insurance company and fixed to be as good as new...well car with 23,000 miles that was well taken care of. Rear part of the frame was bent when it was rear ended , my brother-in-law fixed it and replaced all parts damaged with new OEM. Infact if you didn't now it had damage its in close to 9 out of 10 shape for a 2005 and can't tell it was damaged or any other damge.
1) Please post your $.02 on what a good price would be.
2) I don't need Navi since I have several GPS's all ready...but what am I missing out on getting a non Navi model other then the Navi?
3) What will it take to upgrade the OEM sound system to have better sound and way to interface a Ipod (better then a FM transmitter for the Ipod)
I like to have a good sound system in my cars and will at very least want to add more power to the OEM sound system with bigger amps/better speakers and a bigger/better sub woofer system with a bigger amp to power it and possibly enable XM in the OEM system that I all ready know how to do with speakers and amps.
My car history: I presently have a 2002 RSX that I have had since 2003 and put over a 140,000 miles on it that is still in good shape and runs perfectly still...just looking to upgrade/get some thing newer/better before my RSX needs some thing major. Before my RSX I had a 97 integra that I had since 98 and put over 120,000 miles on that and sadly totaled when I slipped on ice. Before that I had that had a 88 CRX Si and put over 240,000 miles on it and had since 88 and sold it when it was totaled when I was rear ended and totaled it.

Other upgrades I will do if I get this car I would get a Spec A kit and a rear OEM trunk lip.

Ok I'll bite on a OEM Navi.....if I decide to get OEM Navi be factory installed in a differnt TL or by me in this one I can't find a good step by step on how to do it to a TL if I get a Navi myself (new or used) and install it or have some one install it for me. Please post details on installing a OEM Navi and or who does it. But I go to say I still don't see the point for me to get one. I all ready have several good GPS's I'm happy with and don't care to have a back camera or watch DVD's in my car.

In short- the interior of the TL was designed around the nav. I've had my TL since August and haven't used the actual nav portion of the car, but wouldn't have wanted a TL without it. The screen just looks so so much better.

well if you really dont care about how the dash looks go ahead with the non-navi, i have a non-navi but i also have a garmen GPS. I would maybe use the navi once every 2 months thats it and im still looking foward to doing a non-navi to navi conversion. I noticed that the navi screen comes much closer to the outside buttons then my screen does..it just looks bigger, sleaker, and clean looking. Its more of a thing you would get because you like the way it looks rather then it performs unless your allways using your gps. Also you can do mods like customize your backround of the gps to your liking

Good question....I will keep this car for years/basically drive it in to the ground like the past cars I have have listed. I'm not worried about resale value with the salvaged title if thats why you asked.

If you really don't care about function, looks or trade-in value; forget the navi. The after market install runs $1500-$2000 according to those who have done it. Details are available in the audio section.

I think used car prices are local. Check your area papers and autotrader etc. I suspect that car with salvage title and non-navi should be mid teens.

It strikes me as though you're buying a vehicle that would otherwise be out of your price-point, but that is your decision.

Just be mindful of maintenance/repair costs if the aforementioned holds true, I have seen many people purchase a vehicle without due fiscal resources wherein said 'ground running' occurs well in advance of their perceived timetable...

my tl used to be a non navi until i did my conversion, and it really made a difference in the look of the interior of the car. i had no navi for 4 years and now that i have it i really appreciate the look of the interior alot more.

Thank you for the replies so far everyone. True I wouldn't pick a TL my next car in less I could get a good deal on one like I may be able to on this one. In fact I have been looking for a 2007 or 08 TSX S for a while which is what I thought was or may have been my next car...till this 2005 TL caught my eye in such good shape and low miles which to me is like a newer car and around the same price I was going to spend on another car. I use my car for work that I drive from location to location to fix computers. Ya I get paid per mile and can afford a nice car and do dive allot since I'm on the road all day five days a week. LOL My RSX is running fine and may...of should just sit back and let this TL go...and wait and see if I need a car or repairs or this crappy economy gets better and has a better out look for making more money that even efects guys like me in computer repairs.

I didn't care about the nav. My main concern was a manual trans. After market gps/nav are cheaper, better, and portable.

Salvage title. Should cost less. I know a guy just bought a salvage 07 Tl with 15k miles for $18k.

Good thinking, particularly if you're on the road a fair portion. Why jump in to another note if the one you have is running well?

Well it will be a cash deal if I get it or when I get a new...er car. I know my car will need a rack and pinion and a power steering line that will take lots of labor to replace in the near future = $$$$ and if I sell it now it would save me a few bucks since I know they are going but not that bad yet and may not show to some one that drives less then me for allot longer time.

If you plan on driving the car into the ground, as you said, then don't get it with nav as the nav in the 3G TL is already "outdated" by today's standards. Also, it seems like you've made your mind up about it so don't let us convince you to get it if you don't want it. It's all about personal preference.

Oh I know the OEM Navi is out dated and not even close to the GPS's I have all ready in performance and things that a good GPS will/can do. I'm more concerned about my questions I'll ask again.
1) Please post your $.02 on what a good price would be with a salvaged title. Ya I know it's kinda a local price thing o what it may be worth.
2) I don't need Navi since I have several GPS's all ready...but what am I missing out on getting a non Navi model other then the Navi? Does the OEM Navi do any thnk else then Navi?
3) What will it take to upgrade the OEM sound system to have better sound and way to interface a Ipod (better then a FM transmitter for the Ipod more like a direct connection)
I like to have a good sound system in my cars and will at very least want to add more power to the OEM sound system with bigger amps/better speakers and a bigger/better sub woofer system with a bigger amp to power it and possibly enable XM in the OEM system that I all ready know how to do with speakers and amps. May ven replace the head unit....but do like the controls on the steering wheel instead of a remote control that I have used for years.

Navi has complete voice command for the radio/audio system and climate control.

I got my 06 TL about a month ago and it is non-navi. I went with the 6-speed instead and it would have been really really hard to find the one with navi AND 6-speed. I agree, the interior looks a lot nicer with the screen but you will get used to it. I actually prefer seperate controls for radio and vent controls. I still like simple things. Coming from a Pontiac, I am still used to turning knobs lol.

If you can get that car for a low ass price get it.

A car that is salvaged whether you care about the resale & 05 & recession should only cost you less than 12k. If you can get the car for 10k, go for it. You can easily spend 2k on getting the factory NAVI built. The whole Navi unit only cost about $500 via eBay, its the wiring harnesses that take awhile, but someone would do it for a 1k easily. So for 11.5k (assuming you buy for 10k) you got the whole car finished and sell your aftermarket GPS system and get you a body kit and lip spoiler and some A SPEC rims/drop

1) Not sure...cheap obviously.
2) The nav, as said, does have voice control and an overall easier way to control and navigate the radio. Then there's stupid little tools like a calculator, conversions, blah blah. But also with the nav, the climate control display is moved up above the nav screen, where usually just the clock is on the non-nav models. (see pic at bottom of this post)
3) I'm not sure how its done, but look into a product called USAspec. My car came preinstalled with one in the center armrest/console. It's basically just a black iPod cord that is hooked into the car's stereo. There are dozens of other products like this though.

Interior nav-

Has anyone put a touch screen interfaced it to computer like a netbook or laptop of some sort in the place of the OEM Navi and have a post about it and how to do it and be able to control the functions the OEM Navi does like climate, sound system and phone. That way you could do allot more with that space and be able to update it to be better then the OEM Navi.

That would be easy to do since the space is already there.

They're called Carputers

1. you need to get the car appraised, typically salvage title cars are 50% value or less.
2. With or without navigation the TL is a fantastic car with a strong engine
3. I would personally rock a TL without navigation
4. I had a 1994 salvage titled honda accord (at 60K miles). In the 100K i have put on it since I have only had to replace the following
a. radiator cap
b. driver side outer CV joint
c. exhaust

my friend is driving it now 16 years old and still running strong

by comparison my 02 CL-S has required
a. new transmission (acura picked up the tab but still)
b. 2 sets of lower ball joints
c. cross over pipe for coolant

Brother-in-law, 100% OEM parts, rear ended car is less problematic then a front ended car.

Since resale is not a big issue in your case, it may be worthwhile to take a chance on the "salvage title" car your brother-in-law fixed.

How tight are you with him ? I would find out if he would sell it to you at his cost as a favor since your are family.

LOL if it was just my brother-in-law I had to deal with to get this car I may be able to get it close...er to his cost,......But his brother who is co-owner is a greedy guy and every time he gets his fingers in to some thing it's all about how much profit is going to be made. Times are tough and not selling cars and needs to pay the bills so I know I will have to allow some profit....just enough to make both of us happy is my concern. So...I'm still looking for a better way to figure out how much this car is worth.

If that's the situation, cost plus $ 1,000-$1,500...depending how much money went into the car.

What is the cost ?

Hmmm... I was about to say you can swing by a Carmax and have it appraised. Its free to get it done, and at the same time they probably could tell you if their was anything else wrong with the car. One problem, Joe if you Live in Buffalo, NY then the closest Carmax is in Maryland, outside of Baltimore. Not worth the trip if thats the case.

If a Carmax was closer to me I would take to them for sure (good idea and thanks for posting the info on them) I found this on their website.

Hmmm, I could take it for a test ride....a long one. I'm kidding!

Thats what I had and I reeeeaaaally wanted the Nav. Ended up trading in for an 08 TL-S after less than 2 years with the 05. However, I'm a realtor & use it constantly so that had allot to do with it. My brother in law has the portable GPS and I just personally dont like them.

I have the car to see if I like it for the weekend (haven't paid for it yet or said I'll take it) Best price I can get it for is $17,000. Ok Guy an Gals give me your two cents.... sound like a good deal or walk away. I have to say this car is so clean you can't tell it was even in a accident and looks all most brand new. Has 22,000 on it. XM is working from last owner. Only took seven parts to fix it too rear trunk, rear bumper and some smaller parts around the rear bumper. The frame went back in place no sweat my brother in law said. Also my brother in laws night time mechanic works at a Acura dealer full time as a mechanic and gave it his blessings plus my brother in law use to manage/was a collision guy at a Acura dealer an said it's in really good shape/shouldn't worry about any thing on this car.
