Loaner car got rock chip
Loaner car got rock chip
I got a loaner car last week when I had my car in for service. I got a rock chip in the window and I didn't say anything to the dealership.
Should I be concerned that they might file claim to my insurance?
does anyone have any advice? should I come to them and just pay for a new windshield?
thanks,
Larry

how obvious is the chip? is there a crack with the chip?? all they have to do is run the car through the wash and the wiindshield will continue to crack if there is one.
you could tell them, to be nice and they can get the chip fixed (depending on location) on your buck (that's like $100), or plead your ignorance. what rock chip?? that was there when i got the loaner.

It's really up to you...do you believe in karma? What if they returned your car to you with damage and didn't say anything about it, how would you feel? With that being said don't worry about it lol.

Being honest is the best policy. I would think they have insurance to cover that.
Since you are asking for advice, it must be on your mind. Do yourself a favor and give them a call, it would have been better to be open initially.

does your insurance have rock chip coverage? Geico will come out and take care of any rock chips I get for free. For them it is cheaper to treat the chip to prevent it from becoming a crack in the window.
So if I were in your shoes, I would call my insurance, have them send somebody out the treat the chip, then feel free to tell the dealer about getting it treated.

^So if I borrowed your car, a rock chipped your window and I didn't say a word to you, it would be cool with you?
I would accept it as being wear and tear, but not telling me would not only aggravate me, but you would NEVER borrow anything from me again.
Loaners are good faith gestures.

haha it was an after thought about calling it in - I talked to another service rep in at the dealership and they said don't worry about it - the guy noticed and didn't mention it to me because it's normal wear and tear.
thanks for the advice guys!

I'm sure the dealer has insurance against this type of thing.I disagree with it being wear and tear, though. A pitted windshield is normal, but a chip that turns into a crack IMO isn't, and should be treated seperately. That's why insurance companies have coverage against it.
