Lip Spoiler Installation in Cold Weather

I have a question geared more toward the installation on the Rear Deck Lip Spoiler in cold weather. I live in Norfolk, Va and the weather is about 40-42 degrees right now. I'm concerned about the 3M tape curing in this type of condtion. Will I be able to correctly install this lip spoiler? IOr should I wait?

It would be better if you wait, but I've done mine in 18 degree weather last year. I did it in my garage and used a hair blower to warm up the contact surface. I know you're probably anxious to get it on so you probably aren't going to wait. Good luck.

I agree with the hair dryer. That'll warm it up enough for the adhesive to work.

I installed it yesterday in at a temp of 42 degrees with a heating gun. Looks great!

I never installed mine yet either. Its like 20 out here in Jersey lately.

How did you use the heating gun? Did you warm up the tape or the trunk lid?

Also how many pieces of tape are on your spoiler? Mine has 2, I was wondering if I should put another piece in the middle for added security?

If you use a heat gun be very careful because it can damage your paint due to the intense heat. All you need to do is move it up and down the 3M tape, warming it up. Then place it on! Please make sure that you measure and tape off the area that you want to install the rear deck lip because keep in mind that it does not extend to the far corners of the trunk. You should have just less than 1/4 inch gap on each side.

Depends on if you are patient or not. If you gotta get it on right now....put the car inside for a day and let it warm up or heat the garage and do it then. With a decent forced air "jet"/salimander type heater....I can get my garage up to 75+!! The adhesive really needs to be up to temp to adhere correctly. Think about it....you could try and cheat it....or you can do it right. There is only one chance to do it right the first time!

Most of those adhesives state 50 degrees as the temp., but not only for application. These things usually need a specific time to cure as well. I'd check with the manufacturer.

Well 42 degress with direct sun is good enough to heat your car up and with extra help from a heat gun...i had enough heat to cure the job I was doing. Thanks! It turned out great!
