lightly modded 04 5AT vs Lexus SC 430
So I'm on the highway coming back from work late saturday night (around 2:30 am) and notice some HID's coming in fast 2 lanes over on the left side. I've got my front windows down to enjoy the cool breeze, music on, and my right hand placed on my passenger seat headrest - basically I'm just chillin' going a conservative 70mph.
This guy has his top down, dealer plates, and just flies by me. So I wait a second then I say screw it, and drop it into SS and get into 3rd. By this time he's already a good 9-10 car lengths on me and I'm just seeing if he can pull away from me. I knew they had V8's but wasn't too sure about the specs. I also knew that him having a convertible, the added weight would be to his disadvantage.
I'm not saying how fast I was going cause looking back, it was pretty stupid. I'm glad I had an upgraded suspension and low profile tires cause there is no way in hell I'd drive as fast as I was going on stockers, but getting back to the story, I am very happy how well my car gained on him to the point where I let off the gas to leave about 5 car lengths between us. Wanted to make sure I had enough room for any evasive maneuvering because I couldn't believe this idiot was driving as fast as he was with the damn top down!
I slow down and head back to the far right lane cause my exit's coming up and my valentine1 gave me some blips up ahead. By this time he's about 10-12 car lenghts out. All of a sudden, he brakes hard in the fast lane, drives a few hundred feet, then at the last minute does a 4 lane change to exit on my exit at the very last second. Guess there was a cop up ahead.
Anyway, we pull side by side at the stoplight and I just turn to him and smile. Looks like his car had more of a weight disadvantage cause he was a pretty chubby guy looking at his face. I go straight, he turns right (probably to take the back roads home).
For over $30 grand less, I am very very pleased with the performance of my 3gen TL and other 3gen owners should feel the same regarding performance if you throw in a few extra grand for bolt-ons. I couldn't imagine seeing his face if I had the supercharger and/or NOS installed. Even the pro-cats alone would have really sealed the deal IMO.
specs Lexus SC 430:
price MSRP base @ $66,050
V8 288HP (SAE???) with 317 torque
1/4 mile @ 14.3
top speed 149
curb weight 3840 lbs. + his fat ass
