light brake squeal

hey guys

I own a 5AT 04 TL n I notice that wenever I brake going downhill or I brake semi-hard at a stop sign, there seems to be a slight squealing of my brakes. Is this normal or is there a problem with my brakes? i just broke 4000 miles and have had the car for 4 n a half months.

Thanks for any feedback

Thumbs down What I'm talking about... sorry..

Downhills!?

Ok, this could be caused by Grade Logic Control System.

Acura says:
The 5-speed automatic alters its shift schedule when traveling uphill or downhill to reduce shift frequency, and improve speed control. Throttle position, vehicle speed and acceleration/deceleration are continuously measured, then compared with a map stored in the transmission computer. The Grade Logic Control System then determines when the car is on a hill and automatically adjusts the shift schedule to hold the engine in a lower gear for better climbing power or increased downhill engine braking.

EDITED...

Brake dust may be the cause or the pads are wearing abnormally. I have the same problem with light braking. I clean the wheels but 2 days later the squeal is back.
Anybody using semi-metallic pads?

YES... 100%... I've become used to it... Just a quirk of the car I suppose.

I would guess that the squeek out of the garage is after a rain or a resting period where the raw steel of the brakes rusts/corrodes quickly and it's just the first rub off.. many cars do that. My Accord sat for a few weeks and my brakes were pure orange, boy did that make a ruckus when I backed down the driveway. But was gone after one stop sign.

Same here my brakes (rear I think) squeal for the first bit of each day I drive which is shitty. I live in a high rise condo and every morning there's my new car (4 months) with the squealing brakes. I've tried braking hard, soft, normally and cleaning the dam things but just no cure other than maybe the dealer looking into it. The only problem there is when the services guy take my wheels off I'm sure they'll mess-up the inside of the wheels, where the lug nuts are.

It could be nothing more than all the grit & salt on the roads causing noise. This just occured to me for the first time this morning. I'll spray the wheels out really good in the next few days. If it continues to occur, I'll have them checked.

Often I would have a technician remove a set of pads, clean them off & reinstall them with a coating of Molykote lubricant on the shims.

Golferboy-you're awfully cynical for a young man!

Hm..if any of you guys decide to take the car to the dealer about the brakes, please keep us posted. I'm trying to determine whether or not I should bring it up at the dealer when I go in for my 1st oil change.

Also I was wondering..is anyone with the Brembo brakes upgrade having the same problems? Or is it just the stock brakes that come with the car?

Thanks

Not cynical maybe perfectionist. Just like things to be the way they're supposed to be and never had problems with brakes squealing in over 500k miles of driving.

Actually, it was directed at the remark about the techs damaging your wheels, not the brake noise.

Just had it happen before and have the techs tell me that's how the wheels were when I brought the car in...?

Ah, I see. A walkaround during writeup would have ensured all parts knew of any damage. I insist on them.

I've got an off and on squeal also. I have about 26000 on mine. It's very light though. Has anyone had them fixed? If so, what was the cause?

TL BEN - my car started doing that at around 9K miles - it stopped at about 12K miles or so, and now its at 14.4K and it hasn't happened since around 12K miles.

I think its a break-in thing because I took it to the dealer 2-3 times about this issue and they said everything was A-OK - and sure enough, it seems like they were right.

I see, maybe I'll talk to the dealer about it in a week or so since my oil change level is at about 20% now. It just seems odd to me that my brakes would be squealing like this already when I've only had about 4100 miles. Thanks for the feedback.
