Smile Lifespan of Original 2006 TL Brake Pads?

I currently have 34,000 miles on my 06 TL and thought I needed new brake pads because of the sound it was making and also their was a gap when I pressed the brakes....took it to the local Acura dealership and found out that I still had 50% on the pads left...they went on to tell me that the lifespan depended on the driving conditions of each person, pads could last from 20,000 - 80,000 miles...Are the Acura brake pads that good....Well the goods news was that I did not have to pay almost $600.00 for replacement pads....but...they did find that the VSA Modulator was bad and that they were not going to let drive it home until it was repaired...they gave me a loaner (2008 TL) because they had to order the part, he said that it was not a recall, but that they had recieved a bulliten advisory that if customers complained about a gap in the brake when they apply pressure that the VSA Modulator would have to be checked So my question is, what is everyone else's mileage on their original brake pads..Thanks

52K on my '06 with original pads. About 45K of that is highway so very little braking. They have about 50% life still on them.

I've got either 34K or 36K on my '05; my mechanic said I was nowhere near wearing out the original pads(I wasn't there to look while the car was on the lift the last two services).

My 2002 TL-S has ~66k miles and is still on the original pads and rotors. They are due for replacment at the next Oil Change.

IIRC, those brakes are essentially the same as the '04 - '06 5AT brakes.

People running the Brembo fronts ('04 - '06 MT & '07 - '08 TL-S) are seeing pad life (generally) between 15k and 30+k miles, with somewhere around 20k - 25k being pretty normal.

i have 30k and found it strange that my mechanic told me i still had 90% in the front and 50% in the back. is this possible?
even though most driving is highway, how can i still have that much?
shouldn't the front wears out faster?

My front pads were changed out at 35k, the rears are still going at 55K. Dealer said another 5k or so for the rears. But the car is squealing ALOT, when I just start the car and at low speeds. But once they've warmed up, I don't hear the squeals anymore.

See my post above. If you're on the highway alot then you're not doing very much braking.

My wife must have different driving habits than all of you guys than... The fronts were worn down to the indicators by 34,000 miles. I didn't find it too strange, as that seems to be the norm for all my cars

For our TL, I installed Akebono Ceramics... They seem to stop just as good as stock, but they certainly dust a hell of a lot less.

And what does, "Gap in the brakes when applying pressure" mean? Just curious, so I can check if I have that problem....

I bought a set of pads at 30K cause they started squealing. Jacked the car up, took the tire off, and saw that there was a lot of pad left. 45K now, and still plenty of life. BTW the pads were only about $80, and it's an easy DIY.

When I first got my TL I would apply pressure and the brake would brake, there was a slight delay from the time I applied pressure on the brake pedal and the time it would start to brake....does that make sense...anyway it did not feel right prompting me to take it in...I do not have gap any more...

I changed my brake pads at roughly 25k for the fronts, I have the Brembo's and enjoy spirited driving. IMO the rears still have 50% life in em. Thankfully brake pads are easy enough to change out! $150, changed em in 30 mins & back to driving!

The sluggish brake feel maybe a result of moisture in brake fluid. Acura service manual says to replace brake fluid every 3 years regardless of mileage. For a 2006 (2005 in service date), it is about time to flush brake fluid.

My wife got about 60k out of hers. Crazy. They started squealing so I bought some RacingBrake Rotors and new OEM pads. Took the old ones off and was surprised that even at 60k she had a fair amount of wear remaining.

My 05 6MT is at 35k and needs new fronts, but rears are still good. I thought that they would last a lot longer than 35k, but I guess it depends on the owner before me.

My VSA module was bad, and acura replaced it twice in the first 3 weeks i owned the car brand new..... then, my brakes started acting up at 20k miles. Acura told me i needed new pads and rotors ... so instead of shelling out $700 for those, i went for the Rotora BBK..... little did i know, that the VSA module had gone bad again... so the VSA had trouble working with my new rotora kit.... and....that was the end of my car

i keep reading more and more about these VSA modules going bad... i think its time Acura issued a RECALL on these, considering it is and can be a serious safety issue.... my

you guys have 6MT... (brembo) those pads dont last very long, and can go bad as soon as 15k and last up to/around 40k.... so 35k isnt that bad at all.... be prepared... those brake pads are NOT cheap!!

I replaced my brembo's pads+rotors at 55km. OEM Pads were only 48 dollars for the set.

2005 NBP 6MT. First replacement of the front and rear pads at 101,000 mi. Fronts less than 1mm remaining each side, rears about 40% remaining. Paid ~$150 for OEM fronts and ~$50 for OEM rears. Less than 3 hours labor, no rushing. Rotors worn 5%, no changes.

Amazed at the even, complete wear on the Brembos. Dust away for another 100K mi.
