Less Attention From Police

What can I do to get less attention from the police? On Thursday, I got my first ticket for going 52 in a 35(it switched from a 45 - 35 and I didn't notice). I was tagged with laser so I had no way of escaping it. No help from the v1. Motorcycle cops and their damn BMWs.

I just got home because the cops called my parents telling them that I was violating curfew. Supposedly the cop noticed my car and looked inside and guessed that I was under the age of 18.

Does anyone have tips to help me avoid trouble with the police again? I'm actually getting annoyed. I almost died in a car accident due to another driver so I don't speed and I am a moderately safe driver. I never had this much cop trouble in my 93 Legend...

I love my TL but geez, I don't like being pulled over. I used to see the police all too much when they were cracking down on parties and such. The increased police visits aren't a welcome change.

Slow-down would be helpful...

Using Laser gun to ticket you at night?? I agree with EluSiOn, your HID may be too bright and catch their eyes. They may think they got BMW...

Well, did Oregon Police Dept. have detailed procedure to indicate cops how to use Laser gun? Where is our Oregon Police 04TLer? I haven't seen him for a long time. He even took longer vacation than I did.

Face it, you got yanked cause you were speeding. Slow down and observe posted speed limits would be a good start to avoid getting pulled over.

When I got pulled over it was during the day. I got pulled over today doing absolutely nothing wrong and I didn't even have my fog lights on. I was just hanging out with some buddies and we were simply going to another person's house.

I am wrong about the HID and the FOG lights. Maybe it was bad luck or other reasons.

(it switched from a 45 - 35 and I didn't notice).
You might be able to fight off that ticket, if you can prove (take a pic) that the speed limit sign was covered by tree or etc (poor visibility from the road).

Well I'm not even complaining about the Ticket. The city I live in, Beaverton, has a first-offenders program where the ticket can be waived from my record and I pay a fee of like $50. I just am thinking two days in a row isn't a good thing. It was about 12:30 when I got pulled over and I'm pretty sure weekend curfew here is 1 AM.

Just stay cool, drive slowly, and pay more attention to those cops-zones.

Some cops dislike young kids driving the good vehicle. Some cops got nothing to do in nice neighborhoods. Some cops got stress if they don't issue more tickets in a month...

I don't suggest you to have fancy radar detectors or more advanced system to prevent these tickets. Just try to drive carefully, good luck to you, man.

Got go now... I read over more than 600 threads today... spent about 8+ hours here... I have violated my curfew law at home... Night...

Don't bother fighting the ticket using this claim...

I don't think your claim that the speed limit changed without you noticing is a good reason to let you off. Especially since you were doing 7 MPH over the speed limit you thought you were driving within.
I would highly recommend you stick to the speed limits. What color is your TL? Sometimes this has an effect on how well you are targeted too. Try to refrain from constant lane changing and car passing as well. Are your windows tinted? This too can contribute to being pulled over.

I guess you can invest in a Valetine's Radar.

If you're getting pulled over a bit too much, $300 isn't a bad investment.

For future reference from the Washington Co. website:

Washington County Curfew Ordinance

For children under the age of 14 years:
9:15 p.m. on school nights
10:15 p.m. on other nights
For children 14 years and older:
10:15 p.m. on school nights
Midnight on other nights

This ordinance does not apply to children who are with their parents or guardians, engaged in supervised activities, or on their way to or from work.

It could be worse.

I failed my first drivers' road test, according to the examiner, because of where I went to high school.

"Kids from your part of town need to know what it's like to fail and not have your parents able to bail you out."

And I kid you not. Of course, ironically, my dad did try to bail me out, but all his complaint did was get me to retest with a different examiner.

I passed.

Then the first weekend I was out driving with a car full of buddies, I got pulled over for "criminal trespass" after curfew. :hitler: I'd pulled into someone's driveway to make a Y-turn. I got off with just a Stern Talking-To . . . only because the cop didn't look in the trunk and find the 100 rolls of toilet paper.

I got followed by cops for 10 minutes two day ago. Just to make sure i wasn't being paranoid, i drove through a shopping center; they followed me in and out, and then i drove to my little sisters school tp pick her up, they followed me down the small private path to the school, then i pulled into the parking lot and finally those nosy bored animals finally broke off. I guess they dont like seeing an 18 yr old in this kind of car.

-Edit: What is this curfew BS? So much for having freedom. It just gets worse and wrose as the years pass.

Wow that cop's instincts that you might be out there and up to no good were wayyyyy off base, weren't they.

You just got caught in a speed trap, nothing much to do about it. Lucky for us Kentucky collects enough taxes with the radar units and hasn't bought any laser guns.

What about other older, TLers, in other parts of the US? Are you being pulled over by the police frequently, just because you're driving an Acura?

My car has nothing extra on it. It's SSM straight from the dealership. I can't put anything extra on the car yet because I simply don't have the money. I payed a total of $18,000 down($6,000 from parents) and I have $6,000 left to go so until then I can't afford to spend any money on my car. Not to mention I have to pay high insurance and gas prices are ridiculous. I did however save up and buy a Valentine 1 and hardwired it, but unfortunately they don't help with laser.

Oh and I know people are gonna ask how I can afford paying that much for the car, you can choose to believe me or not. I have several side businesses that I run; three to be exact. I started them from the ground up unassisted from my parents.

I hate to say something like this, but it's my assumption that a young kid in a nice car is a target for police. I think it would be better if my windows were tinted actually, then they can't see me!

Amazingly ... no, I don't get flashed, pulled over for my HDs, followed, harassed or otherwise have my rights violated. Now when I was 18, speeding, racing around with a car full of buddies, hanging out and driving like an a-hole ... hmmmm as a matter of fact, yes I was pulled over a bunch of times. Go Figure

Join the Police cadet Program!!! You'll get to know all of the officers and a nice little ID to. You'll be considered one of them, then when you turn 21 join the Dept. (problem solved)

If you can't beat them, join them?

donkeykang,

I have 7 speeding tickets through out the years and now I still have 2 speeding ticket record within Last 36 month. It will be off the record next year Feb, so my insurance premium will drop alot next year. I got pull over many times when I was driving the 96 civic (my first car, it had V1 too) and I got pull zero times when I driving my New 04TL so far. The high insurance premium makes me drive slower. I am tired of the cat and mouse game with the police; if V1 beeps, slam on the break and always on constant look out for police on highway. Now I only drive +10 mph of the speed limit on high way and follow the speed limit on local roads (sometime by accident I might go above 5 mph). So far I have not been pulled for 30 month now.

Sorry, but they both can't be true. You just admitted that you were caught speeding, so don't tell us you don't speed.

If you're going to speed, at least stay in the middle of the pack. Don't be the lead car, and don't be the last car. Either one is much more likely to be pulled over. Stay out of the #1 (far left) lane as much as possible too.

If it's only you and one other car speeding, let the other car take the lead. Stay far behind, but pace him. Most likely, he'll get pulled over first.

I think your assumption is wrong. A young kid speeding (52 in a 35!) in any car is a target for police.
