Lemon Law: Need your opinion
Lemon Law: Need your opinion
leased the vehicle on Jan 15.
-first service visit was Feb 2 because the car pulled to the right
-second service visit was Mar 26 and I had some free time so went in again for the pulling. All they did both times was inflate my tires up to 40psi all around
-third service visit was Sept 21. Dealership finally accepted the fact that the steering wheel was off center. "adjusted" and then aligned. (how this takes them 4 hours is beyond me)
Now the pulling was never fixed. In fact, after the 3rd service, the service manager told me that it still pulls, but not as much, this is the best we can do. I am 24 yrs of age and don't qualify for a loaner. I work 7 day/70 hour weeks and quite frankly, I don't have the time to waste sitting around the dealership while they inflate my tires. I screamed tire pull each and every time, but they denied it.
I believe this would be grounds for a Lemon Law claim, given I have given them 3 tries to fix it for a prolonged period of time. The alignment of a vehicle is critical especially with the winter season rolling up. I am about to write a letter to the Manufacturer directly abiding by the guidelines of NJ. Has anyone in NJ filed a Lemon Law complaint before and any advice to give to me?

Read the statute to figure out how many repairs are required for lemon law status. I also believe the law covers amount of days in the shop for repair. Varies from state to state.

car must be out of comission 20 garage days OR 3 attempts to fix it. I don't know if one takes precedence over the other. in my case it would be 3 attempts to fix and 3 garage days.
Yeah, it looks like the statue will have you covered, I'm thinking someone who had the car before you did hit the curb pretty bad, and might have bent the subframe. If the subframe is bent, the car will pull to the direction from where it was hit. I know because a couple people from the forums have actually had this happen to them.

If the alignment is in spec, then it's in spec. If the dealership wont, just swap the front tires, left to right/right to left etc.. If it is a tire/belt issue that will identify it.
Otherwise, if alignment is the only issue take it to an independent shop and have them give you a second opinion. Yes we are all busy and shouldn't have to spend a dime having a car under warranty "repaired". But,,, you will spend allot more time and money "attempting" a lemon law buy-back/replacement etc..
-What brand of tires are on your TL? I would find a 4 wheel alignment shop that sells that brand of tire so if it is the tires, they can assist with a tire /price compensation.
Dealership Service dept's only like to make money - Your problem is no longer allowing them to do that...
So, is it just the alignment or do you not like the car?

As mentioned, swap the tires around and see if their is any difference. Start with just moving the front tires.
Turanza EL42, the revised version for the base TL.
I had the original EL-42's and they did the same... Not to mention they never could balance them.
I love the car, and they swear the alignment is in check. but if I have to cock the wheel to about 1'oclock when I'm cruising in the highway, regardless of which lane i'm in, something's not adding up.

Seriously, swap the front tires around and see what happens. Mine was obvious. Threw the EL's away and went with the Michelin Pilot Sport 2's and the car felt like it should have new...
Having a lease and this type of issue would aggravate many of us. The last thing one would want to do is spend money on tires etc.. But you may have to to fix the issue if the dealer refuses. Most of us would agree that the EL-42's are less than adequate for any car...
Good luck - let us know what you find if you play around with tire placement etc.
