LED's in License Plate Frame
I'm debating upgrading my reverse lights to LED but was worried of not enough light. Has anyone used this?

Have you ever thought about using those for your LED DRL's? Or do you already have 1,000 lumen LEDs in there too lol

I'm all for bright LEDs, but man those are just plain ridiculous. I have some 100 lumen LEDs for my plate lights right now and they are BRIGHT... You have 1,000 Lumen LEDs? Wow I can't even imagine how it looks at night in person.

I use my HIR2 fogs as DRLs, but I've thought about getting some LED strips to put on the lower grille area. Or, If/when I take my headlamps back apart to paint some or the chrome by the turn signals, I thought about doing some kind of LED strip inside the headlamp toward. However, I recall the pain of taking the bumper off, and cleaning up all the RTV sealant. Which is something I'm not really looking forward to.

FINALLY a thread where people care about bright license plate lights....I have never seen a car that can beat my license plate lights...yours looks bright but I would need to see yours in person to compare. 3rd pic down is the bulb I am using, dual cree chips, 7440 size, so I can to do some custom wiring for a new bulb base.

care to explain how you are regulating current? Crees usually come with their own regulator inside the housing. also, how can you say that its running at 2300mA? have you taken a multimeter to check?

Based on what you said earlier, I assume you are running the cree xm-l chip? (3A, 10w, 1000lu) http://www.cree.com/led-components-a...onal/xlamp-xml
since we probably arent local to each other, there'd be no accurate way for us to tell who is brighter. but mine can light up my alleyway when I open my trunk to point the license plate light up.

The Cree LED's I have are mounted on a star shaped heatsink. So, just took super glued them to the outside of the of where the stock license plate bulbs go.
Here's a pic of the Cree LED:

Ahh I see, thanks for the info, I figured you were running the XML led. I had that same star cree in a flashlight before, however I am not 100% sure it's a heatsink? Looks more like a regular circuit board with the positive and negative terminals. The led is bright but I do not think it is brighter than my 4 cree LEDs

Oh. here's the link I used to calculate the resistor:
I know I'm running them at higher than the max 3.5v they're spec sheet says, but I got them for $6 a piece. So, if I roast them I'll just get some actual 194 LED's for the license plate bulbs. I also need to find some 921/906 bulbs for my reverse lights. I was looking at these, but I'm always worried about ebay quality. I'd really like the "Cree Eagle Eye Tower" from http://autolumination.com/906.htm, but not at $25 a piece.

Same here. I'm using these

I know it's nothing compared to the other 2 posters in this thread, but I can say that it's literally the brightest plate lights I've seen anyone have in person at night

Well, I ended up roasting one of my LED's. So, I just ordered some 120lu 194 bulbs. I thought about getting some Cree XLamp MK-R, 1769lu and you can run them up to 14v, so no resistor needed.
Here's a link to them: http://www.cree.com/led-components-a...onal/xlamp-mkr

Need some help and advice. One of my bulbs in the back went out and I had replaced them 6 months ago with LEDs, so I just changed that bulb with a new one and it still doesn't work. any suggestions??

Check your fuses and/or check the voltage at the connector?
