led reverse lights
i got a 07 type s im wondering what you guys used for led reverse lights...i need some opinions i looked into the housing and the socket looks really small so i need some advice
I'm browsing for the same thing. Let me know what you find. I ordered my interior courtesy lights through www.ijdmtoy.com and they also carry back-up lights. Also, I got my license plate lights on ebay for $6.99.
Here is what I have been using since March 09:

These are 3W units and while they have been reliable, I find that they are very dim. I would recommend going with the higher wattage bulbs for this application. V-leds.com has an 8W unit here:
http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/P...-p7526829.html
which I would like to get some feedback on.
Of course, you could always install HIDs in the reverse sockets for the ultimate backup lights!

I just e-mailed HIDExtra.com to see if they have LIDs for the the reverse lights for me.
For LEDs I got this e-mail....
From: MotoringMax @ eBay [mailto:info@motoringmax.com]
Dear Customer,
For the reverse lights, you will need a pair of T10 LED bulbs. Which is available at http://store.ijdmtoy.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=t10.

I don't like those T10 bulbs---look just like regular wedges to me. You need high power lights for this particular application. Go with the 8W V-LEDS.com if you go with LEDs.
I don't think any company has any HIDs marketed specifically for reverse lights. You can use an H3 bulb, but it won't fit exactly---I think guys are using epoxy to kind of tack weld the fixture in place. Its a bit more work (relays, power source, etc), but if you want bright backup lights, these are the shiznit!

Actually, there are a couple of guys that have put in HID's in their reverse lights. Check out this video:

Haha! Great video, Raj!
This was a pretty easy install. The only thing you will need to get is a delay relay so the HIDs don't turn on when you shift from park to drive. That's not good for the bulbs.

I guess I'm more concerned about the parts needed. Obviously, 2 slim ballasts and 2 bulbs. Where can I get the relay and how is that wired up?
I had the trunk liner off when I put the LED license plate lights in so I'm familiar with at least that part of the process.

Not sure how well you can tell from the pics, but here ya go. Tried a couple different camera settings and I think these are probably the most accurate. They were taken with no flash so the source is a bit brighter than it really is.

Would you say these are brighter then the stock Halogens?
How do you engage these reverse light LED's while you're driving? Do you have a seperate switch that activates them? This is really cool but I'm not sure on the uses of it other than pissing off tailgaters and showing off in front of your friends. I guess you would get a great benefit if you have the reverse camera on your car.

would this be too much light for the rear view camera?
i just installed hid in my inline fogs and i thought that look good, time to upgrade.
I have the 8w heading my direction as we speak. They should arrive tommorow so I will provide a review once I get them installed.
Shit---I meant to say they are NOT bright enough for me. For LED, go 8W. For more brightness, go HID.
Speaking of which.. I should have pictures of the 8w unit tonight. Tracking info says they are on the postal truck which usually arrives around 11am. Really hope they are bright enough for me. As cool as hid reverse lights are i'd go back to stock before I went HID...

For whoever asked...you can engage the reverse while driving on a manual car by holding in the clutch and putting it in reverse. I wouldn't recommend doing it too often but someone behind you will get the point to get off your ass...or crash which would make me think twice about doing it.
Very tempting though...nice and bright for sure.

Is that a for sure...the H3 bulb will plug and play into the socket for the reverse light on a 3G TL.
DDMTuning just lowered the price on their raptor kits to $29 with a lifetime warranty...I don't see how you could go wrong here.

Either way thats a great price. I just didn't want to go through the hassel of doing the install. Maybe down the line though.

Well...I'm wondering how much work is actually involved...if it's a plug and play...it shouldn't take more than 10 min. to put this in. The raptor 2 kits are the $30 ones...and with a lifetime warranty and the fact that it's for reverse lights...i'd go that route, if anything.
