Lease Car Damaged in Accident 2004 TL

I was in a accident when a lady ran a red light. My car was close to 18000 dollars worth of damage close to a total loss. It was a lease I imformed my insuarance company. Since its a lease do I have to contact the dealer where I got the lease from??? Any opinions would be glady appreciated... The reason why I ask since its a lease I return it to them will they even want the car back with all that damage???

Man that sucks, I hope everyone is ok. Do you have gap insurance? You might want to read this article.

OMG, did it have to be SSM? Glad that you're ok. I don't think you have to contact the dealer, but I'm not sure.

As far as I know, you dont need to contact the dealer. If it was a total loss, your insurance will contact Honda Lease Corp. and pay off the rest of the lease.

BTW, these Acura's are some really safe/well put together cars. Thank God.

Sorry to know this. Hope you get good result from your insurance company and Acura soon.

At least, all air bags and safety features did work.

Wow! The full airbag treatment. Glad you are OK. What was that like?

If the car is totaled and you have gap insurance, you will be able to just walk away and stop making lease payments. You may have purchased gap insurance as part of the lease itself, or from your insurance company. It is built into some leases.

If you do not have gap insurance, your insurance company is only going to pay for the market value of the car, not what you "owe" on it. End result, its gonna cost you out-of-pocket.

Seems like it takes a whole lot of damage to take a total loss on these cars. Some insurance companies will warrent a total loss if all the airbags are deployed. Hope everyone is ok.

Holy cow, that looks awful. Glad you are around to talk about the hit.

That car should be totaled. I'd push the insurance company for a total!

Had a similar situation in 2000 with a Chrysler Concorde. You shouldn't have to contact anyone, but you will be responsible for either repairs or payment. If its totaled, no problem. Just sign the check over to the lease agent. If you didn't have gap insurance, you will be responsible for the difference between the check and what you owed on the car. If they fix the car, the lease agent can't say anything as long as the repairs are adequate. Unfortunately you will still have to drive the car until your lease term is up. Of course, every lease company has different requirements so make sure you read your contract very carefully. Glad you are ok and hope things work out for your best.

YOU SHOULD HAVE USED ZAINO!!!! It creates an invisible shield that would have made the other car just bump off!

That's a heart breaker. Glad you're OK. Looks like the passenger "cage" held up pretty well so that speaks volumes in favor of the TL.

It doesnt seem like you need to do anything more than contact your insurance company and then consider a replacement car. Did you get a police report?? Witnesses?? just curious.

Did you lease this through Honda Financial Services? If so, gap coverage is included with the lease.

Also, if it is totaled and you are planning on getting another TL, might want to check with your dealer to see if you qualify for this - http://www.hondafinancialservices.co...dershipleasing

Your dealer has nothing to do with your car after they sold it to you. All they can do is to recommend a good body shop. They may even have their own. You need to make sure that the car is fixed to Acura specs and may want to give AHFC (the real owner of the car) a call. In my case (I had only $1,600 in damages) they had no interest in seeing the car. Unfortunately you are now stuck with this car till the end of your ease. It will be very difficult to trade it in. On the other hand you will be able to return it to the leasing company when your lease expires and avoid any financial damages.

That looks like much more than $18,000 worth of damage and if it really is $18,000 worth of damage it's not even close to being totaled by 99% of all insurance companies.

I have State Farm and a brand new $32k car with 11,000 miles in an accident and the damage was $25,000 and the vehicle was repaired.

You've got to be kidding me! Somebody actually fixed that shit? How's the ride feel so far? I guess you're lucky you leased it and didn't buy it. I'd get rid of that thing as soon as I could.

hey let us know how the ride feels. does it feel as good as it did before the crash? i always say.. its never the same.. IT JUST CANT BE!!!! ::ithink::.... but i havent experienced it.. damn.... i thought that if it was more than 60 or 70 % of the value it would be a LOSS.. but hey.. guess not. Just like someone said. be glad you are ok and that its a lease. knowing that its still under warranty and you wont have to keep it later on.. DAMN!!!!

Actually there were a few things I wanted to take to the dealer before the accident....I had Bass Rattle, Rear seatbelt rattle, Drooping Headliner. And guess what those are all gone now. Actually the car rides great I was surprised or I just havent drove it in a while. All in all they did a decent job. When the lease is up I hope by then they have a AWD TYPE-S or maybe Ill get a RL. Thanks for the replys. I just have to say the TL is one safe car...

Insurance Companys today are fixing anything thats brand new especially NJ. If the car was 2 years old then its a total. If its only a few months and didnt have your Second Oil Change they will fix it. they rather pay the total to fix it then pay the Value of the car to save money.

I'm glad you're doing ok. Aside from that, it's very painful to see a new TL in that bad a shape. Good luck with everything.

If so, man I feel your pain. Glad that everything has worked out for you and that you're still in one piece after two pretty serious accidents.

BTW I also totaled a Berlina Black S2K prior to my TL. Boy does this bring back memories.
