Keyfob Problem: Doors Won't Lock

So I just finished changing the LEDs above my license plate, and it worked fine so I pressed the lock command on my keyfob and was about to head in. I noticed the lights didn't 'blink' so I tried it again and it didn't work. I then tried the unlock and 'trunk open' functions and they worked fine.

Has this happened to anyone before? Could I have messed up something electronically when I was replacing the bulbs above my license plate? Any help would certainly be appreciated

Well, you were messing around in the trunk. And I know the car will not lock the doors via the keyfob if it thinks the trunk lid is open. If you can't find anything wrong with your work, try putting it back the way it was and see if it works again.

Yeah, tried the 2nd key fob and same thing. All functions worked except the door close. So I was just locking it with the key when I went out at night.

So I took it to the dealer and they fixed it. They said one of the doors wasn't being recognized as being closed somehow? So anyway...that's the solution. thanks for the input/advice.

ps no new keyfob. Although mine is all scratched up from the FAT keyring that came with the original keyfob, they said mine was fine. It didn't hurt trying ;0)

This brings up one of the things that annoys the heck out of me. You can't lock the doors with a keyfob if ANY of the doors are open.

I know that this is to help prevent you from locking your keys in the car, but it's annoying when you have to grab something out of the back (or the trunk), and can't lock the doors until after you shut the door. If what you're grabbing is big and bulky, the keys may not be very accessible after closing the door. I'd like to be able to lock the door, stick the keyfob in my pocket, then grab what I need. Oh well... I guess it's better to inconvenience a few than to call out a locksmith for many.

I was thinking the purpose is more that you won't get a confirming beep if the car thinks a door or the trunk is open, and so you will be assured that your car is secured if it beeps.
