Keeping up with maintenance
Right now I'm at 60k and so far haven't had any problems with my type S other than the tighten fuel cap which I got fixed by changing out the purge valve at the dealer. I'm just wondering what maintenance I should keep in mind as my mileage begins to increase. I know for the timing belt I'm supposed to get that done at 105, but what else is there. From the top of my head I can think of spark plugs, tranny flush, belts, throttle engine cleaning (maybe), other fluids that should be changed. Maybe someone can provide a summary of the things I should get done and at what mileage. The manual just says to wait until the check engine comes on, but I don't like that idea. Also, I heard changing the pressure switches really helps your tranny last longer. A summary of these things, from minor to major, would be great to have.

Thanks Bud
Right now I have 60k miles on my AT and it says to change out the transmission sensor. I've tried looking on here but found several different threads including transmission pressure sensor, gear transmission switch, pressure sensor. Which one is it?! How much do they cost and whats the estimated time my mechanic should be able to do this in. A link to the DIY would be awesome

You also need to get the existing Honda Z1 transmission fluid out asap. Each time you drain and fill the ATF, it takes out 3 quarts. Do this 3 times (with full shifting of the transmission in between) and you'll have about 85% out.
Do both the pressure switches, and the ATF, and you shouldn't have transmission failure. Trust the vast experience of this forum. Just do it.

I called my other mechanic and he said he could do a trans flush but he doesn't do a 3 by 3 but rather he drains then puts the fluid in and continues the process until the fluid is cleaned. he also said he runs it through the transmission, but he didn't really say how he does that and if i would have to drive it around like how i saw on the trans flush posts. He said he would prefer to use honda OEM trans fluid because that's what the dealer puts in and he said the other fluids would work, but its always good to go with OEM. He said I can bring in my own fluid if I want but he doesn't recommend it. From what I've read on the posts on trans flush, would I have to make him drive the car around for apprx 5 minutes after every flush? He also knew about the pressure sensors and said he would look up my vin and then order the parts directly from the dealer because that's the way his warranty works.
I still have the CPO trans warranty to 100k miles, so would changing out those pressure sensors void the warranty? Also for the trans fluid, should I just go with OEM because my mechanic was saying that sometimes what people say to do on forums may or may not really help unless I'm making some sort of mod to my car and that its always good to stay with OEM.

i called two of my mechanics to get a quote on a trans flush, the first had no idea what i was talking about when i mentioned a 3 by 3 flush and said he uses a machine to do a trans flush, and he quoted me at 120 . He also had no idea about the transmission sensors and said he might have to take the entire trans out to do it. So yeah, I might not be going to him anymore

B) Never flush always drain & fill. You want to give some time between the drain and fills not just all at once.
C) Print off the DIY or show them the link posted above if they dont know how to get to it, its not hard.
D) tons of people on these forums have done the pressure switches with great success, that mechanic shouldn't give his opinions.

yeah i really should look for a new mechanic. But the second mechanic seemed like he was willing to do whatever I wanted. I think sometimes mechanics just get pissed because these forums have so much more information on how to trouble shoot problems that they might not even know about. Anyone know a good mechanic in the chicago land area..?

Well I have a Tip, just last week my TLS was in for service & they told me it needed a valve adjustment at 75,000 miles & radiator hoses should have been changed then too, it has 100,000 miles now. Yea okay, my 98' accord has 285,000 miles & original hoses, Honda tech friend told me they never need replacing, valve adjustment is at 105,000 miles. Just don't let the dealer soak you.

Im on the verge of buying a 08 TL-S with 56k miles, but am going to be driving it down from Philly to Atlanta. That being said, I will immediately put around 800 miles on it and was wondering what all should I expect and try to negotiate down the price for in terms of scheduled and major maintainence as it gets close to the 60k mark?
Based on the info here can you guys please confirm that the following is going to be needed at 60k and what the price range/estimates will be for getting these things done:
TRANNY OIL------------------------------------------------60,000 (Redline Type F ATF 3x3 flush Important!)
PS OIL-----------------------------------------------------60,000 (Acura OEM)
BRAKE FLUID-----------------------------------------------60,000 (Valvoline DOT 3&4)
COOLANT--------------------------------------------------60,000 (Acura OEM)
SPARK PLUGS----------------------------------------------60,000
TRANNY FILTER--------------------------------------------60,000 (OEM)
TRANSMISSION SENSOR------------------------------------60,000 (OEM)important
I figure if I am buying a car that has close to 60k miles on it and the above maintainence will be needed soon after purchase, either I can get him to do it all before buying the car or he can adjust the price accordingly. Lemme know your thoughts, and thanks in advance

did you ask the owner what service has been done so far. The TL has a maintenance minder that shows a code of what service needs to be done when the oil life shows 15%. Brake fluid should be changed every 3 years (does not go by mileage) I own a 06 tsx but a lot of the service needed is the same. I had the coolant and spark plugs changed when the appropriate code showed up at 110K miles. I also has the MTF changed then.
What is a MTF?

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Just curious what do you think the price ballpark would be for doing the previously mentioned 60k maintenance, including the motor mounts that justnspace mentioned?

KCCO
I don't know what the price would be, but what I'm doing is buying the parts and fluids myself and then taking it all to my mechanic (that which I can't do myself) and getting them to do the rest. It always saves me a little extra because the shop doesn't have to worry about getting parts/supplies and I can control what is going into my TL.

ABSOLUTELY.
the problem with the stock design, is that they will break. and break often.
I dont know what the Acura engineers were thinking when designing those mounts.
even Civic Si's mounts are more stout than ours.
the XLR8 mounts use the same mounting points, but are a completely different design.
a "better" design, if you will.
should you go for the 75a's?
that depends on your goals and expectations of the car.
if you dont mind a little vibration at idle, and I mean a little. go for them.
passengers can feel the vibs, but it isnt like a built subaru...where the passenger totally feels like he's in a go-kart.
as far as performance goes, the car does behave better when I shift. (6mt)
But, I havent really got on it and played around with it. (no seat time)
I will be going on an acurazine roadtrip/cruise through some twistie hills next weekend.
will update you on how she performs!
