Keep Honda or get TL or wait
Hi! This is my first time posting on here and I just wanted to get an opinion on an offering on a TL I saw. So the TL has 180k miles and its a 2004 model runs good no mechanic problem, and no lights. Has a lot new parts, front lower control arm both, new front wheels bearing, new tire rod,new sway bar link rear and front, brembo rotors, new catalytic converter, and new TEIN Street Advance coilovers. He said it also has NAVY on it and I don't know what that means. I have a 03 Honda accord coupe 4cyl w/ 55k miles. He said he will accept trades so I don't know if I should take a risk b/c I'm not a fan of the honda. its not set in stone I just wanted to get feedback as to whether I should try or I'm just waisting my time. Thanks!

The answer really depends on what you're using the car for and what you want out of the car. I love my TL but considering trading a 55k mile Accord for an 04 TL with 180K (Keep in mind that in a year you may be facing 200K+) really depends...are you using it as a DD? Do you care more about mpg? Do you want to mod your car? What are you looking for in the car? Do you expect it to last for years and years to come? If you really want to get a TL, are you willing/able to pay cash on top of a trade, and can you find a better (perhaps newer with lower miles) TL that you'd feel more comfortable in and enjoy driving?
I think you're comparing apples to oranges, but hopefully thinking about those things helps. Good luck & welcome to AZ

You are considering going from a 55k mile Accord to an 04 TL with nearly 200,000 miles? Do yourself a favor and keep the Accord!!!! There is no telling how much you may have to keep putting in that TL. The automatic tranny in that 04 could be a ticking time bomb with those miles. I personally wouldn't even be considering this switch.

Yeah man, your accord may not be a rocket ship with the I4 engine, however, that's some super low miles. You'd really be downgrading by getting a car with 4 times the mileage.
Not sure what your budget or financial situation is, however, the TL is a nice car- just look for one with less mileage. If you really want an auto transmission, I suggest you consider an 07-08 TL. Newer/more features and a better built transmission. The 04-06 autos were known to have issues, although, that doesn't mean that everyone of them will implode.

Your Accord is better in this specific case. Much lower mile (I'm surprised it's that low for an 04 that's considered a commuter car) and probably runs better too I bet.
You said you're not a fan of the Honda though? If you're not a fan of it, why would you want an Acura then? Sure it's a bit more luxurious than a Honda, but at its base it's still a Honda.

Well if you're not a fan of your Accord then you can definitely flip it for some good money. It has extremely low mileage and I'm sure it's in good condition.

Yea I'm not a fan of the coupe style but hey, the car had such low mileage that I had to take it. Idk how much I could get for it tho if anyone could give me maybe an estimate just so I have some options on what I want to do with the car. Its also not a car that I want to put money into b/c its a 4cyl, I just dont see that its worth putting some serious money into.

Decent mileage is very subjective........
And as others have said, you must really HATE you car to even consider the 04 with that mileage.

And the question is what mods are you thinking about? If you're thinking of mods, means you already may have some in mind. So giving us a starting point would be a good way to get that conversation going.

Mods are all about personalization. You can borrow some ideas from fellow Accord drivers who have modded theirs. Maybe check out an Accord forum?

So the color of it is silver and I have stock rims on it rn. What kind of rims should i get to match the color, im really a newb at all of this and i would like to make the car look good! Im not crazy about what is under the hood rn (its also a 4cyl) but i would like to change the appearance of the car. Im also looking at putting an exhaust on the car as well but since its a 4cyl, i just dont see why i should. Long story short, should i just leave it stock until i have money or can trade for a better car or should i put some money into the car?
Mod YOUR car to YOUR preference, not anyone else's.

2) There are a lot of miles on that TL, and while they are definitely reliable you are going to have to replace some stuff sooner or later. It probably won't be a big deal especially if the car is well maintained (he have receipts for all this stated work?), but if you don't have money for a quality car you won't have money to fix a bad one either. You've seen the car and we haven't so that is totally on you.
3) Be leery of trade deals. Make sure the title is in order and run a carfax. Someone on the Facebook 3g TL group was running them for people so maybe try and look for that.
4) There are a lot of trim levels of Accords...a low trim level might be worth more than this TL. Definitely the value of the TL is lower with all those miles...check NADA guide for values (or KBB, but NADA is better). A trade plus cash from him is probably in order. Don't let your desire for a TL cloud your judgement.

I would keep the accord. I had an 05 coupe ex-l before my type-s. Absolutely loved it (just had 200k on it & I needed an upgrade) but with 55k, you're gold. As mentioned before, trading that few miles for something with such high mileage, is not worth it in most peoples opinions. I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, there is a larger market for aftermarket parts for that gen accord. I wasn't into modding cars back then, so I'm not 100% sure. A simple google search lead me to this picture..

Trade in the accord coupe for a TL with about the same mileage or keep it. Don't invest to much money into the accord bc you won't get it back when you sell the car, instead use that to trade up.
A TL with 180K is asking for somewhat of a headache. You'll probably need to do the 185K service which is the complete timing belt, water pump service from 105K, and it should be done every 60K after 105K miles so 165, 230, etc.
The transmission could fail in the TL and that's at least 2K that you would have to spend to upkeep a car with 180K miles.
Use the accord as a trade in or down-payment on a car (if you can get a good deal) and finance the rest. You could have a $200 payment or less to upgrade

Yea I'm not too worried about miles b/c I put on about a 100 miles about 3-4 weeks at a time and I've always been looking for a tl but its gunna be hard to find one at a low price with decent mileage. Thanks for the input and I'm gonna still be looking for that special TL and I'll work on my accord
I wasn't even considering a TL because it was beyond my budget but my buddy who works at a repo depot found me an 06 TL 6MT with 130k miles which was listed for $8990 but got it for $6000, roughly $5000 US. I had sold the Honda for $1500 to the first person who looked at with full disclosure of the problems and jumped on the TL, it's essentially a fancier/newer Accord.
However in your case with such low miles on the Accord I would just stick it out and wait for something with a little less mileage to come up. Just be patient it took me about a month and I looked at over a dozen cars before finding it.
Good Luck!!
