K & N Filter?

Is there a K & N replacement yet? I have not even researched the intake system yet on it. Is it in deed a cold air?

look in the left hand side intake on the front of the car, see the opening.. there's your cold air.

Not a straight shot, but colder none-the-less.

Don't know bout the K&N yet either.

Yes there is. Do a search, there was a pretty extensive thread on this pretty recently. Got me to order mine (from ajusa.com, cost was somewhere around $37). Still waiting for delivery.

Increased air flow, if you look at a stock filter it is paper thin, the aftermarket filters are made of a higher quality, duralble filter so that more air can pass through. More air flow thus more horse power and better gas mileage. You wont notice any horsepower change unless maybe at highway speeds with passing a car or accelerating on a ramp to merge

Danno how do you like it...any differences. The only difference I ever remembered on my prelude was you would hear the air go swoosh when you turned the engine off and that you would get a few ponies out of it on freeway driving

As far as I can tell, it seems more responsive. I didn`t get a chance to really "try" it out fully yet but, I think it does work

Danno,

Do you have the K&N part number?

On a another note, anyone have pics of a CAI installation in the 04 TL?

Wicked.

Does the more airflow means more dirt in the engine? How can it put more air without more particles. Please explain.

High perf. filters are made with a less restrictive element, but not sacrificing what they`re meant to do, trap dirt. The element is also coated with a lubricant for greater filtering. They have been around for as long as performance has been favored

How is the sound? I know it may sound like one of those "You have to be here" questions. If anyone wants to post a .wav doing WOT, that would be great!

I just installed the K&N filter in my '05 TL...and the improvement was pretty dramatic...improved pick-up and the car just screams now especially once the V-Tec kicks in!!! With only 400 miles on the car I was a little suprised to find the original air filter kind of dirty and I dont live in the desert or in a construction zone. So I suggest you guys all check your airfilters regardless of car mileage and possibly replace it with a new one if not a K&N airfilter.

Do you have to put oil on the K & N filter?

No...thats only if you want to recharge it after you wash the filter 20-30K later. Its already pre-oiled. -Chris

Thats good, because I would end up putting too much oil or something.

Im assuming the references in this post are to a stock drop in filter replacement.if so ,i fail to see how a K&n is going to produce any noticeable power gain.Ive fallen for the k&n hype in the past and couldnt measure any improvement in 0-60 times versus an old stock filterin that application. There have also been issues with the filter oil migrating from the filter onto the mass air meter hot wire, causing driveability issues.Personally,Im inclined to pass on the K&n.

The K&N filter allows for more air to enter the carb/throttlebody with less restriction than a stock filter. Since ana utomotive engine is basically an air pump...more air = more power. I have one on my 550 HP muscle car(67 Firebird with a stroked 455 motor bored .040 over with ported aluminum E-RPM heads)...its the 3" tall K&N airfilter with the extreme K&N air filter Lid... it improved my HP when we dynoed it something like 10-12 HPas a recall a couple of years ago, as compared with a stock type filter with crome Moroso carb cover. Not once have I ever noticed an oil drip related to these type of K&N/Holley filters.

Hence, I dont see this being much of an issue on the TL.
