Many reviewers have said the new Acura TL looks like an Alfa Romeo. That's only true if you look at the nose of the car. The rest doesn't look like an Alfa Romeo at all. To me, the TL looks like a Mustang (the last generation, not the new one). The doors have the trademark "hockey stick" indentations found on the Mustangs and the front and rear lights are similarly shaped. People say it looks like it was designed by Italians but I say it looks like an American pony car. There, I've said it.

My cousin told me last week that he thinks there are similarities between the rear-ends of the last gen Mustang and the TL. I can see it because of the flat trunk lid and the tail lights positioned at the corner. That's about as far as it goes.
He also thinks the TL looks like a Pontiac. I can see that a bit too. But, thankfully it's not either car. I'm satisfied with the design of the TL, especially in comparison to alternatives in its class and the market in general.

The TL does not have the "gills" that Mustang copied off the Italians. If anything, the TL's side mimics the crease on the BMW's.
Even the overall profiles of the TL and the Mustangs aren't similar.
The TL resembles the Saturn Ion more than a Mustang.

My brother has a 2003 Mustang Mach I. They have been parked next to each other a ton of times. I don't see it.

The 3G TL did take many styling clues from the 1987 Alfa 164, while the new Alfa (159 I think) takes many from the 3G TL. It has come full circle.

Oh - I think the TL looks nothing like the Mustang.

I am not too sure of the similarity to a Mustang. I think the TL is a close family member of the Honda family and shares much in common with the newer Accord sedans. The rear bumper is also shaped similarly and it shares the same 5 point front grille. Also the interior is plainly upscale Accord.
I thought the styling of the rear door openings is similar to a Cadillac CTS. The rest of the car seemed to have cues taken from BMW 3 and 5 series. The rear deck has a small protruding lip reminescent of the BMW tail.
The 5 spoke wheels are one of the most natural and common wheel designs so I don't think they look like they are copied off of any particular car. 5 spoke wheels have a symmetry that just looks right on cars.

Since I first saw the 3rd gen TL in 2003 I always thought the head lights and tails (overall outline) looked like those from the last gen mustang, along with some details of the trunk.
I think it helps the car look more agressive
You are not crazy on this, I am sure that the designers picked up some cues there with the sleek headlight profile and some of the tail design
Sides, grill, etc is not mustang, nor is the overall feel a mustang
