I never stated that my TL is 05. I've got 2000 3.2TL. 75,000 on 2000 is not that many miles.

Hi Fellows:

1) How do you guys reset MID Oil Life to 100% after you change your oil?

2) Does RhinoRamps has enought clearance so car's bumper would not hit the ramp when you are climbinf on it?

3) Is oil filter easy to have access to?

Thanks,

I have not reset my MID yet, but I can answer the other two questions. RhinoRamps do not hit the bumper and work great and the filter is very easy to gain access to from the passenger side of the vehicle. Some folks (not using ramps) have turned the wheel to get to it but with Rhioramps it is very easy to see and change. As I noted yesterday, just about the easiest filter to get to with the ramps.

I believe A1 means you need an oil change and your tires need to be rotated.

I had this message a little while ago. My dealer was going to charge me $100 for the service and I had to wait a month just to get my car in. So instead one day I took my car to a gas station and they charged me $50 to do the service (oil change and rotate the tires) and it took roughly 20 mins. Saved myself $50. Given the gas station didn't wash my car or fill up the winshield washer fluid, etc., but I just don't think those misc. items are worth the $50.

A month! Your dealership must be pretty popular. I usually call on a Tues and have my car serviced that Friday and my dealer services Jags, Mercerdes, Porsches as well as Acura's.

Thats crazy! I will say $100 is cheaper then what I just paid for my service though. My bill came to $115.87. I guess having a SL55 AMG being worked on next to my lowly TL is the reason for the cost.

That's what I thought would happen when I called to scheudle an appointment, but when they said a month I was like I can't wait that long.

The $100 bucks was a round #, after taxes and what not I think it probably would be closer to your $115.

Both BMW and Mercedes (newer models) use Syn oil (my BMW Castrol 10/30) and they do not recommend changes until between 12,000 and 15,000 miles via the oil monitor on computer screen. How is it these cars get that kind of mileage and Acura is recommended between 3,000 to 7.000???? Do Acura engines have that much less tolerance? Somehow, I feel Acura owners are being a little Anal about their oil changes.

hondas use regular oils, those car use nothing but sythetics.... all though regular oils are far better then they used to be, and they have closed the gap on synthetics.... most people will still agree that synthetics are still better.

they get the increased mileage from better (more costly) oils. i use mobil 1, and i still change the filter every 3000 miles (and add a quart), and oil and filter every 6000. whats a few extra bucks knowing my car is in for the long haul....

I'm not completely familier with both BMW and Merc's but I know BMWs use a different style filter/canister assembly. I would assume it "could" be more effective/efficient at cleaning the oil for longer periods. I have a niehbor with a 5 series. I took him down to the BMW dealer one time to pick his car up after a "15K" service... I was amazed to see that oil change interval "recommendation". What really caught my attention was the fact that not only was his "service" bill $300+, it referenced the oil used (synthetic 20W-50) at only $1.49/quart....? I find it hard to believe a BMW dealer is selling "synthetic" oil for that price... I cringed at the thought of dyno oil for 15K miles in my friends $50K vehicle. I acted like I was not alarmed yet told him to ensure they were actually using synthetic.....

My first oil change is free as part of my dealers thanks for purchasing a vehicle from them. Not only that - my warrentee is extended to 56,000 and 4.5 yers. Plus they give you a $200.00 bonus in parts for the second vehicle purchased from them. I turned in my '02 RL in Dec and got the '05 TL.

I have to assume your friends BMW was an older model. Because all maintenance is FREE for the full warrantee period (50k or 4 yrs.) They charge $90.00 at my dealer for a full oil change if you want to do it before the full 15k recommendations. Not to bad. . .
