Just figured this one out!!!
As many of us have complained, the hand brake is on the "wrong side". The trick is that is the "right side" as far as the japanese are concerned (the passangers!). The TSX has the lever on the drivers side because its a JDM! in Japan that is the passenger side! Do you guys agree or I'm just digresing too much?:wow:

Let view it from another perspective. The car was designed in NA for the NA market and it is on the passenger side. The TSX is designed in Japan for a lot of different markets, but if was for the Japanese market it is on the passenger side.

I got rid of a 2002 Audi A4 Quattro 3.0.......
The handbrake on the TL is GREAT!! On the Audi, you would pull up the handbrake, and it would interfere with the Arm Rest.
(The audi had a hight adjustable armrest....I liked it in the lowest position and putting the brake on would always mess with it..)
You talk about a bad design........
Im loving the TL!!

I thought the SAME thing - it is for the right hand design, but in reality, looking at it from a product designer's POV - The reasons it is on the right are:
1. If it was in the center of the console, there would not be room for the rear A/C ducts to go through the console without it being much larger, or giving up all the cool storage space. as other cars have done (e.g. Audi).
2. If it was on the far left, it would interfere with the driver's leg, unless they made it a foot lever, which is OK with me, also.
BTW - I think it is on the right in the Jaguar XK8, although being British, it could be for any number of reasons!!

Burning Brakes
my 98 Accord 5MT has it on the driver's side. I guess I can't really complain about either position, tho it is a different reach having it on the right side, but certainly not an issue for me. The only goof with it on the drivers side is it jabs me in the chest if I lean way over to get something out of the passenger foot well, or leaning over to do other things to the passengers.

Vtech is right, it's very hard to throw a 180 when in hot pursuit of a felon (or well, a nice looking member of the opposite sex) if you have to reach over and goose the passenger.

TL-SHAWD 6MT Rocks!
I thought it was odd at first, having it on the passenger side, but 2050 miles later, I like it, it gives the driver a little more room.
And because I have a 6MT, I now like not having 4 pedals down there that would confuse me a little more. Imagine trying to press the clutch and you push the hand brake! wow - that's scary.
