Just bought a Type-S Yesterday
Yup, just got a Type S yesterday - I've been eyeing this car for a while, and finally got rid of my old beater/college car to get it! Just wanted to say hi to the forum community.
I'm currently looking into different options for modding lighting (halos/dlr, etc) and minor mods to improve mpg/performance (e.g. CAI, etc.), so I'm open to any suggestions and will likely be browsing around these forums more often for ideas. See you all around.

Nice...I have the same color TL but a base model. For few light mods, I would suggest tinting your windows, preferably 25% all around if you can, switching out the yellow interior lights and the license plate lights to white LEDs. I would also suggest installing AEM CAI, it'll sound great I'm thinking about putting one on mine.

Ahhh CBP, been there done that ;-)
J/k, CBP is still one of my favorites, it goes with the Type S color theme perfectly. When I sold my CBP/ebony Type S the other week I had it all detailed and as I watched it drive off I couldnt help but stare because it looked so bad ass. Congrats on the purchase!

Thx all for the welcome & great suggestions
I'm actually really considering a CAI to help with gas mileage, but I'm not all that knowledgeable about them and am scared to death about the possibility of waterlocking the engine if it's raining, etc. I wonder if there's a list of recommended CAI's from yourself (ex. AEM) or others on the forum that details the benefits / drawbacks? I'll probably just have to do some more research...
I agree! (If I had an extra 1k I was willing to spend...I'd totally do this.) Unfortunately a bigger upgrade will probably have to wait til next year, since I'm saving up for a wedding as well haha. Also, by 1 piece setup you mean coilovers right? Don't those easily run $900+? If not please forgive me I'm a total newb.
Haha yeah, gotta represent. Are you from Hawaii too?

You can do this if you're not planning on going too far with the mods. Me personally i wouldnt bother spending money on LED's or CAI i rather keep it stock for a couple months and save that money up and get a nice 1 piece suspension setup, its gonna cost you a few hundred but you'll LOVE driving your car even more than you do now and it'll look much better without the wheel gap. A lot of people spend most of their money on cheap mods that dont do much at all for performance (eg. CAI) so then when they want to do the more expensive mods they have to buy half ass parts, remember when it comes to car parts 90% of the time you get what you pay for. Good luck

If you are scared to death about hydrolocking your engine then simply leave it stock. Raining outside alone will certainly not allow water to be sucked up into the engine, you have to literally drive through deep enough water to submerge the filter. So anytime you see someone talk about hydrolocking their motor its because they were likely idiots and drove through a pool of water that they had no idea how deep it was.
Lastly, the OEM airbox and filter is actually a pretty decent design that is sort of a CAI in its own. I know its all personal preference, but I always thought that a CAI on the TL kind of just makes it sound like a Civic or something. I would rather have a nice quiet intake and get a nice catback exhaust like the XLR8 or RV6 true dual.
Hopefully im not scaring you away from modding your car however you want, but its just my opinion on things so take it for what its worth, especially if it worries you that there is a chance of damaging your engine because of water intake.

This is the way cai work. Cold air = more dense air = more air in the cylinder = more GAS to compensate for more air. Get where i'm going? This is partly why you get worse mpg in the winter. If anything a sri would be best for mpg lol.

Well first off a CAI is not going to help with fuel economy. I think thats some myth and people like to use it as a good excuse to get one :-) If by some weird chance a CAI does improve fuel economy, any benefits will just be reversed anyway by the way you will likely drive the car after the installation. And if you dont, then what was the point of installing one in the first place?

I'm rethinking what I want to do first. Suspension sounds like something I might want to do next year sometime. I've been looking into the Type-S A-Spec front lip too- just from reading around it seems like people either love or hate it - I think it's grown on me so I'm definitely considering it now. Unfortunately I can't send PM's yet so I can't ask AckTL05 for pricing. I also don't really understand the group buys - does everyone need to get the same year/trim for it to be a group buy? And can I just get the front lip? Anyway we'll see...haha.
