jacking up the car from the back
i need to jack up the rear so that i can get the car on jackstands in the back and i know the jack point is the hook. can anyone tell me how u guys are doing this with a floor jack? the one i have is too small, it doesn't get the rear high enough to take the wheels off.
i don't exactly know where the frame points are that i can jack to get the car high enough so that i can get a stand under there.

Here's a thread with some pictures and comments on this.

You need a new jack with a higher lifting range. Or you can try turning your car around if you are on a slightly inclined surface. Your best bet is to get one with a high lifting range though. Most low end jacks only have about 15 inches of lifting range which is not enough. I cannot tell you know much you really need. The 2 times I've rotated my tires I've used one of my friend's craftsman professional that got up to abour 20 (although I don't think I've gone that high.

My jack was also too short for the rear jack point, and I thought I was out of luck when I needed to rotate my tires.
But I found that using my floor jack under the point behind the front tire, and the scissors jack on the point in front of the rear tire works like a charm.
If you do the front first, by the time the front tire is off the ground, the rear is just about off the ground anyway (I assume because of stiff unibody), and the scissors just takes a few twists to get the rear off the ground.
Perfect for a front to back rotation. Other rotation patterns would be more difficult, of course.
