Same ol Same ol Low profile tires and stiff suspension they blamed for my rattles. Still love the car to death though!
I have a whine. It just developed and it doesnt matter what gear or engine speed you are in, if the Speed exceeds about 30 Mph.There is an audible drone.
I have a 6MT and recently had the transmission oil changed to GM Synchromesh.

I think theres a ghost living in my car
Transmission whines, it sounds like in have an S/C. WhhHHhEEEeeeEEEee
Every bump I hit, the car chirps (perhaps a family of sparrows has roosted in my sunroof assembly). Chrip! Chirp! CHRIP! Chirp! (This gets incredibly annoying on back roads...chrip)
At highway speed, the tires sound like belt sanders. NNNnnNNNnnnnNNnn
Oh, and when I lock the doors, the car literally makes a screaming noise. AhhHHhhHHhh!
Too bad I love it anyway.

Yeah the stereo helps put my mind at ease but at higher speeds on crappy freeways I have had that thing all the way up before and realized it could be better.
I am only half def from blasting music in my last car (built myself) but I just cant help myself.

I've had a whine from my tranny for about 2 years now. It's definitely from the tranny. District manager drove it and said it was fine and was "characteristic" of the car. The ATF looks and smells clean. They wouldn't replace the tranny. I have 70k on mine now. So I am hoping for the best. I think this may have to do with a worn differential.
2 suggestions:
1. Did they replace the torque converter with any of the 982347590283754 transmissions they replaced on your car?
2. Just for giggles, pull the radio fuse and take it for a drive. See if the noise is still there.

FYI - I had this same issue with my 06 TL - at about 28K miles, the tranny started whining like crazy. It got progressively louder over the next few thousand miles until I couldn't take it any more. The tranny ran and shifted perfectly, but it sounded like I had a supercharger. I took it to my dealer (Island Acura in Long Island) and the service manager instantly said that it shouldn't sound like that. He took it in, gave me a loaner, and after checking it out, determined that the sound was definitely coming from the tranny and it needed to be replaced - he said Acura doesn't want them diagnosing and troubleshooting, when a part is determined to have a problem, they just replace it. I felt it was something like the torque-converter or something. He ordered me a new one (he swore it was new and not refurbished but who knows) and after a while due to an ordering problem, the tranny came in and mine was replaced. The new one whined very slightly but no where near how the old one sounded. After about 15K miles, the whine in the new tranny has gotten a bit louder, but it's still very tolerable, and I can barely hear it over my "modified" (read: quieter) Greddy exhaust anyway. On a side note, I have been paying attention to how the tranny sounds in TL loaner cars I've been given and I do hear it a little in those as well, but it's very low. I'm at about 46K now, and the car is warrantied up to 113K miles, so if the sound keeps getting worse, I'll bring it to their attention again. Hope this helps.
PS - I thought it might have been coming from my amps as well at first, but I have a switch to kill power to the amps, so I quickly ruled that out as a cause.

Raise an older thread here,,,
My 04TL currently has about 49K miles and the tranny whines consistently in the 4/5th gear up to about 60mph. I figure at that speed and beyond it's still there just not audible due to the conditions.
This is TOTALLY a transmission whine. My car is completely out of warranty given age thus my dealer wants $110 just to "diagnose" the issue. I laughed - sure, charge me $110 to tell me it's the trans then tell me it's normal......
Anyone have any info/insight to this issue recently?
Thanks

Fortunately, I haven't had any problems with my '06 TL, but the issue you described with the dealer, I also experienced. This is with my '03 Honda Civic. I purchased my Civic in Dec 2007 as a CPO Honda. One day I took it in because the check engine light came on. Dealership #1 - Them establishing that it's still under warranty and they wanted me to sign an authorization for one hour of labor. After a few questions from me, I learned that only if they found a problem (covered by warranty) would have to pay them for 1 hour of labor. After giving them a strange look, I politely asked for my keys back and left. The next day I asked the fleet manager at my job if one of his guys could pull a code. He agreed and they said it was liley to be a bad fuel cap. Tipped the young technician, got a new fuel cap. Several months passed and light has not come on again.
Same dealership. Now involving my wife's '07 CR-V. I learned from a forum that there was a TSB involving the differential. Asked them to take a look since my wife's car had noice from the back when in reverse. Again, they wanted me to authorize one hour of labor. I happened to have a copy of the TSB and showed it to them. This is when they abandoned what's clearly their SOP of trying to fleece everyone out of a one hour labor charge.

Are they replacing the torque convertor every time? Convertors can be a major source of whine.
I would look into the cooler too. Make sure it has flow. Usually lube to the trans goes from the convertor, through the cooler and then to the valvebody and various gears. A plugged cooler can kill lube to the gears.

mine is doing the exact same thing but i have a 6mt it at the dealer as we speak getting the tranny dropped out, throught first second and thierd i hear a whine, gets louder as the revs go higher then when i switch gears it starts low and goes hi again
It just depends on the severity of the whine. Every TL I've ever driven has some whine. Mine had it when I bought it new with 8 miles on it. I wouldn't say it's an issue until your passengers notice it.
Just for Data Comparison
MY 04/TL auto tranny failed at 105K miles. It started with the whine, sounding like a supercharger. Eventually ended in gears slipping.
Tranny was replaced out of warranty ($3K, but Acura covered 95%).
New tranny has never whined, and I have 184K miles on her now.
My car developed a slight whine after it was broke in (about 950 miles, on first tranny). I didn't notice it until i got a loner that was NOT broke in and there was no whine.
I changed the ATF fluid last year to Mobile 1 SYN ATF (the new formula), and I do the 3x3x3 every 30K miles.
On the first Tranny, I only did the ATF fluid change at 60K, as recommended by Acura, and I only changed 3 quarts.

I guess my bottom line question is, can I simply keep driving with this problem or will the car eventually have a major problem? My gut feeling is something will happen. I am not a car guy like most of you, so this is all new to me.
Thanks in advance.
