Internet or Delaership?

Newbie looking for advice. Getting ready to buy a new TL and need some advice on how to get a decent price. I have an 02 TL Type S that I bought new from a local dealership and have had a great relationship with their service dept., so I can go to them and negotiate. However, I'm really not good at the negotiation - paid almost full MSRP for the 02. I'm ready to buy right away and will not trade in the 02 - am going to sell it myself.

So I'm thinking about trying the Internet route but there are any number of different sites that say they will get you a quote. Anyone had any luck with this method?

I'd love to go with the A-Spec kit but the dealer price is sooo high! Will they negotiate this to a reasonable level?

What is it about the A-Spec that you like? If it is just the body kit then it is much easier to buy a non a-spec then adding the kit. This is good if you are thinking of other rims anyway since the bulk of the cost is for the rims.

I would do both.. check internet for quotes but also go to the dealers... see who gives you the best deal.. good luck!!

I'm after both the suspension and cosmetic pieces of the A-Spec. I have the full underbody kit on my 02 and love the look. I've checked some of the threads here and it sounds like I could get the pieces separately and have them installed - but would prefer to get it all done at the time of purchase and not have be concerned with any warranty qustions. But its a high price to pay!!

The A-Spec kit is fully backed by a factory warranty even if you don't buy it at the time of purchase.

If you buy it from your Acura dealer, right? Like mine bought from hondacuraworld wouldnt be covered under the same warranty as if I bought it and had it installed at the local Acura dealer?

Thanks - don't live anywhere close to FL but it helps to at least know a ballpark on what they're selling for with the A-Spec.

The little Accessories brochure they have at the dealership states:
"Every accessory carries a full 4-year/50,000-mile warranty when installed at the time you purchase your new TL." I don't know how they could refuse to honor an Acura oem part that was purchased from an Acura dealer, even if it wasn't installed at time of purchase? Perhaps the warranty coverage is different when purchased over the counter?

Hi ccabs,

When I was looking to buy my TL last month, this is what I did:
  • Went to Acura website to get all dealerships within a 200 mile radius (I was willing to travel)
  • Emailed all Acura dealerships with an internet sales dept with the exact configuration I wanted (ext/int color and accessories).
  • Waited for replies.
  • Created a spreadsheet of the dealerships, sales contact info, and quoted price.
  • Called the dealerships that were missing.
After this was done, I had a good general price that I wanted to buy the TL at. With this price, I headed to one dealership and bargained. If they didn't want to take the offer, I get up and leave. Luckily, the first dealership took my offer. Good luck with your purchase!

^^^^^^That Is The Way To Do IT^^^^^^^

I did the same thing and got a great deal. You just deal with the internet sale's guy's and its quick and easy. None of this tag team preasure sale's. You set the price before you go and it's ready when you get there. I have even heard some people do it all online and over the phone and the dealer will bring the car to your door. Now thats what i'm talking about!!!!!

Excellent way to negotiate the price. Let the dealers compete with each other, not you with the dealer. I bought my TL the same way.

Yes, ASpec I would get afterwards, otherwise that RonJon is looking real nice. Where you from? For instance I called and talked to the 'Internet Manager' from a dealership I had never really heard of or been to an hour and a half away from me in PA. When I finally decided to go there, the 'IM' was out, coming back in 15 minutes. When I sat there waiting another sales guy came up, so I played the game for about 5 minutes, asked price.... which the in store guy would have sold me for $3500 more than the first asking price from the same dealership same car online.

Never doubt the power of the internet. If you think you've got the best deal from the be dealership from the best salesperson... call up and ask to speak to the internet department. Hell, even if it's the same person you've been dealing with in person, they may still offer you a better deal. Their psychology of it all? - you the customer can easily hang up the phone and call somewhere else in 30 seconds and get a better price. Once you get the better highballing from someone else, you're not calling them back. So they've got to get you in the 5 minutes or less you're talking. And if there's no need to say 'oh, I want one with the ASpec.... then they know you want something custom. Custom costs more. Negotiate, but let them know who's boss.

Just my
