intermittant rear deck rattle?

At about 1000 miles my 5AT developed a rear deck rattle that occurs once in a while. It doesn't seem related to the stereo, I can hear it with the music on or off. Has anyone had and fixed this type of rattle yet?

It doesn't seem to be center seat belt related, and I put some felt between the manual rear hatch release and the metal it could rub on... so don't think it is that.

Can you describe what it sounds like? Is it a plasticy sound, a metallic sound, a springy sound?

The sound is very light, like whatever is making it doesn't have much mass to it. Maybe both metallic and springy.

That _does_ sound like the center seat belt mechanism, like mine. Mine sounded very light and springy too, and I would have NEVER thought it was the seat belt mechanism had the tech not told me so. He put a lot of foam tape around that area to fix the problem.

OK, I will focus in on the seat belt. What part of the seat belt is making the noise? The roller mechanism mounted in the upper seat?

Yes, the roller mechanism underneath the deck is what caused it. It's fastened by a solitary bolt, and when you drove the assembly would rattle ever so slightly against the rear deck. The foam helped.
