Hey guys, so I want to buy myself a 3G TL. I'm a student now and I just sold my 98 Nissan Maxima SE. It had about 160k miles and I needed money to move into a new apartment and pay off the rest of my bills. I fell in love with the TL when I'd drive my friend's '06 and simply enjoy every little bit of it. So, I plan on looking for a 3G
my budget is about 10k
what mileage should I be cautious about before buying any TL?
as well as maintenance? any other things I should take note of before owning a TL?

10K is gonna get you a high mileage (over 100k mi) 04-05. you might get lucky and find one with lower mileage.
over 100k mi timing belt service needs to have been done. regular maintenance items. auto tranny issues in the early run 04's, some 05's...3rd gear issues with the MT...
search around...there have been a number of threads asking this exact same question. however with your budget you maybe limit your selection of TLs (mileage, condition, navi/non-navi). good luck.

It doesn't sound like you need to be buying a car right now. You just sold a paid off car to move into a new place and pay off bills and now you want another car which will most likely require a car payment?
Don't make a impulsive decision. Save your pennies and make sure your home situation is good before buying something you don't HAVE to get.

wait, so you needed to sell your first car to pay bills and you want to buy another, more expensive car, now? Need to re-evaluate your financial limitations.
do tell me you're not planning on taking out a loan on a 10k, 7-6 year old car (forget an 07-08 unless it's salvaged or in terrible condition).

Well no I have some money that I had put to the side for a new car for a while now. I didn't want to touch the money and my maxima was giving me too much money trouble especially since I've been Upstate NY and repairs are pricey up here I figured it'd be best to sell it and move on to a new car. I used the money to move into a new place and finish paying off my bills.
I want to buy a newer, yeah more expensive car but that's just because I want to avoid the ridiculous maintenance costs of keeping up with my old car. In no way did I say I'm taking out a loan for this car...
I just want to know what I can get for around that much money..and what to avoid

FWIW, I got an 06 non navi with 100k miles for 12,000. I financed it, and want to continue to improve my credit, otherwise I would of waited a year to save up money and buy. One thing I screwed up on, is not asking if the 105K service has been done, which I doubt, so there goes anywhere from 1 to 2k. Keep looking, and in your financial situation, I would stick to a 3rd party (craigslist, bookoo, eBay ect)

i'm also looking for a tl or tsx with the same budget as you.
i've been looking at craigslist everyday and there are a lot but they are usually high mileage.. 120k+
if i can find somebody whose already done the 105k service then i might just buy.
good luck searching!

Although we are talking about hondas which with the best of them, they still are going to need to be things that are going to need to be done on the a car with 105k+..
And if you are not in the financial state to be prepared for upkeep, then I think your best bet is buy a newer import but something that is around 5k so your payments arent high, and you will be able to afford it if something were to happen..
