Insurance Question

Had a minor fender bender in august, damaging my lower rear quarter panel driver side. I reported the claim with my insurance but turns out my deductible is $1000 and the damage was only a few hundred. So it still has not been fixed and an adjuster never came to look at it, to my knowledge. Now, a few days ago someone swiped my passenger side quarter in a parking lot causing about $800-1000 in damage. No insurance info or anything cause the person was gone when I came out. If I file a new claim for this incident, would I have to pay my $1000 deductible twice to fix both damages for both claims, or only once and fix everything.

Once and you could file that under comprehensive which should be cheaper.

If the insurance agent is doing their job, it would require 2 deductibles, 2 separate claims, and also Comprehensive will not cover this type of damage. Comp will cover damage from fire, hail, flood, vandalism, theft and striking an animal.
If you try and report the damage is from one encounter and caught, insurance fraud.
Good luck

He's right, sorry to hear that. You may want to look into lowering your deductible.

No I was not trying to report the damage as one incident. Previous claim was reported months ago and they know what was damaged. The damage was only about 3-400 though. The most recent damage was not reported because its basically the same situation and the deductible costs more than repairing either side.

Wow that seems high.

I'm 24, have a $500 deductible, I even have one fender bender in which I was at fault and I pay about $98 a month through Geico. (Geico was the cheapest by quite a bit for me.)

premiums will drop once i hit 25. Also i'm driving almost triple the mileage the average person drives.

98 sounds too cheap to be comprehensive. Is it?

I'm actually not sure on comprehensive, but I want to say yes? It was a pretty thorough plan from what I recall.

Oh and I forgot to mention my mileage. I believe I said 9-12k a year, so not too much. I'm also in a suburb which helps.

I just checked online and it DOES include comprehensive. $500 comprehensive deductible. $500 collision deductible.

24 year old with 1 minor fender bender like 5 years ago, driving 9-12k a year, located in a suburb.

I pay $98 a month.

Yea I was very pleased with my rate.

I don't know if this may be helpful for you, but it appears I'm getting the following discounts through Geico.

5 year good driver (I'm assuming my 1 minor fender bender was either now beyond 5 years, or was such a minor amount of damage that it doesn't count. I remember them specifically looking into how much damage resulted.)
Passive Restraint AKA air bags
Anti-Lock Brakes
Anti-Theft Device

It's hard comparing insurance costs as the amount is dependent on location, liability limits and if in a no fault area wheteher one has a threshold or no threshold. In Jersey if one wants no threshold, that alone calls for almost doubling the policy.

hmm i wonder if rates are different per state?

I got a quote from geico a about half a year ago and it was only a few hundred cheaper than trip A. I also have AAA roadside, and a 100mi towing distance which i'm hesitant on parting with.

Do you have coverage for uninsured motorist, etc.?

I know one thing geico discount offered to me was profession based (Computer Rep.). I never really followed through with it though.

edit: good to know turbo. I was thinking location might have something to do with it (no offense to anyone here, but we do have a lot of illegals driving around. Friend got his s2k hit by an illegal w/o insurance)

I assume rates vary greatly per state, and then again within specific zip codes of that state.

I do have uninsured motorist insurance as well. I even recall increasing the one limit (I forget the name) from, I think, 50k/100k to 100k/300k at the rep's (and my mom's as well haha) suggestion.

I have the same discounts with Geico. I would advise to complete the defensive driving certificate. It would decrease at least $40 bucks-essentially paying for the discount but it helps. Same for the OP.

I recently had a FB that was about $2600. While in the shop and doing a eval with the agent I asked him about a couple good size scratches from a previous incident and was told that it would have to be under a seperate claim. So yes, 2 seperate claims.

You insurance is also effected by your credit rating and where you live. Do you have any relatives that live in nearby cities? Try changing to their address and see if it changes. I'm 41 and pay $223 a month through Geico.....of course that's for two vehicles
