Insurance Code

Just wondering if everyones insurance on their 2004 TL is coded as a "2004 Acura TL 3.2" or "2004 Acura TL" For some reason i'm thinking my Insurance company made a mistake and is using a "3.2" in there making the insurance more then it should be. any opinions on this matter from insurance experts?

I just know my insurance went up considerably going from a 2000 Outback 3.0 VDC sedan to the TL "sport" sedan. Lady from the insurance company laughed at me when I was shocked, told me "honey, this one's in a different catagory." No $hit.

Yeah, well how pissed was I when my insurance went up also.
But I had a mustang cobra before.

I know this car costs more, but come on...

Since there is only one engine model, I cannot see why there would be any difference. However if you had an A-spec or perhaps a a manual tranny, those could be considered more sporty, thus more expensive to insure.

One thing we got to remember is insurance rates for given vehicles don't just reflect "performance". Sure the TL has higher hp than others but its also a car that mostly "mature" drivers would own.. Basically, for the most part, $35K cars aren't driven allot by younger drivers. Another key factor is cost of repair and amount of repair for "average" accidents. Then their is the desirability or history for theft, and of course the overall risk of driving given your state/town of residence (hazardous weather is factored in).

I had to change insurance companies and the new one happens to be considerably cheaper than the previous one. They had to make this temporary code for the TL because when I insured it they didn't had the car on the database yet. But it was all transparent to me.

The insurance I have now is 960 bucks every 6 months for both the Corvette Z06 and the Acura TL, also both with full coverage.

Is this rate any good?

Previous I.C. wanted around 1760 bucks for both cars every 6 months.

Metropolitan puts the car as a symbol 18.

I am paying $940 per year.

For comparison sake, my 96 Volvo was a 17 and cost $880 per year and my 00 S2000 is a 19 and costs $1088 per year.

All in all the TL is treated pretty fairly.

Some of Insurers cannot have the new cars' codes into their system right away. As manteuffel said, the company would find the code for you, then it may mail you the new one as long as they have the proper code for it.

TO manteuffel, I guess your rate is good, it's hard to compare anyone's rate with other ppl not in your area. Yours is definitely better than mine, but it may be still too much for someone in other states. There are other threads talking about rates. You will never believe some areas do have that kind incredible rate...

TO Nicki, may I know what insurer you are using now?

I had the same problem. I bought mine 2 days before official sell date and the carrier didn't have it in their system yet. So they used '03 and just changed it to an '04. I called them last month just to make sure they have the new code and that I'm not getting jipped. They said that the new '04 code would make my rate go up slightly, but would leave it as is for my benefit. I thought that with more safety features in the '04 the rate would be better. I guess not.

Papers came in the next few days, and on the paper it said acura tl 2004 2door coupe. i was like wtf ? this is a sedan. i called the lady up and she said that is what the computer inputed. so i called up another office and they rang the car up as 4 doors. and they rebated me 125 dollars for the mistake.

As noted earlier, comparisons with owners in other parts of the country are relatively worthless. Your best bet is to comparison shop in your home area. You can use as a website such as QuoteSmith to get multiple prices at one time.

I have State Farm Insurance.
They listed the car as:
Year: 2004
Make: Acura
Model: TL NAVI
Class: 1F30501

It is interesting that they listed the NAVI. They must have gotten this info from the VIN as I was never asked by the insurance person whether it had it or not.

My insurance went up roughly $100/ 6 month from my previous 1991 Honda Prelude. I just got the insurance invoice and I need to call and question the price. It does not itemize several discounts I had on my previous car such as multiple car, safe driver, and others.

Even at this price, I am not upset, I expected a lot worse increase in insurance from a 13 year old Prelude to the 04 TL.

I can understand why the collision and comprehensive went up, they are certainly insuring more value. What I don't understand is why the liability went up at the same time. Has anyone else seen this?

You make some good points, however I think the new TL will appeal to a younger demographic than the last generation.

Yeah, but your TL is 4 years newer and worth more than your Audi. Also, there is about 90 more HP. All those factors point to a premium increase.

my insurance company (allstate) also has me as an "04 ACURA 3.2 TL", it must be that they have not updated their system.

only pay $1300 for 2 cars - full coverage. went up a little with the new TL.

I was actually a little surprised that the G35 Coupe I just bought is cheaper to insure than my wife's TL?

Oh well...

Okay, I have been reading this and shaking my head.

First, the reason the insurance companies have it listed as a 3.2 is because it is still a 3.2 TL. Just because it isn't on the car, it still has a 3.2 liter.

Second, it won't do any good listing companies for rates. Each state has different set ups, as well as individual's driving records, past history, and never mind the fact that the TL is a luxury car. I do agree that you should go online and search around. Most companies websites allow you to build policies to see the cost. Make sure to be as specific as possible to get the closest most accurate rate.

As always, this site has been a tremendous source of info... glad to know it's here!!
