Installing Front Rotors with slotted rotors
Hi All,
I am new to these repair stuff so please be easy if I am asking a stupid question.
My o6 TL front rotors are gone with the pads. I did by breakemotives slotted rotors full set....rear and the front rotors plus the breaks. My rear rotors are OK. Is it OK to leave the rear normal rotors and only replace the front. Having front slotted and rear regular rotors create any issues?
Also if it is OK I am planning to keep the new rear rotors for future use will it rust?
Or should I just install all 4?
I have never used a regular mechanic for any work in my car. Dealer is asking $190 for labor and regular mechanic ask for $60. Is it OK to use a regular mechanic for this kind of work?
Thanks in advance.

brake jobs are pretty simple and straight forward on our cars...would you feel comfortable doing the job yourself? with the right DIY guides here at the forum, anybody could do it.
otherwise, it's ok to let a mechanic do the work if you trust them and they have a good rep. $60 is pretty good.
and yeah you're fine to only change the front rotors/pads.

Thanks so much for the reply. I would like to learn to do stuff by myself if I have tools and living in house. I am in a apartment complex and would not allow to do.
again thanks so much for your answer.
How about leaving the new rear rotors unused ....it has zinc plating will it still rust?
Thanks.....

just keep the new rear rotors in the box until you wanna use them. those things sit on shelves indefinitely so you'll be ok.
do you have a friend that you could go to? one that has a garage/tools? that'd be more fun/cost effective than having some mechanic mess with your car...plus, you'd learn something that way.
check the 3G service department on the main page for some DIY guides. print them out, and see how you feel about it. i have to do my brakes pretty soon (43k on original rotors/pads) and i'll be installing them myself. you can do it man, just take your time and follow the directions.

This is the "DIY Page": https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-garage-faq-3g-tl-newbies-553554/
Start there looking for "Rotor" or "Pad" topics.
I might go the other way than SB suggests though - I might put all 4 slotted rotors on and save the used rear OE rotors for later (if needed).

I've actually replaced the stock rotors and pads on the front brakes of my 2007 TLS with Rotora Drilled and Slotted rotors about 20,000 miles ago and still using the original pads and rotors on the rear....

Find a mechanic you can trust and build a rapport. I went to the dealer ONCE since I bought the car because it was a warranty issue. I either go to my independent mechanic or I do it myself if I have time. Good luck!

I'm currently running Stoptech slotted and drilled rotors up front and stock rotors in the rear and have no problems at all, and just save your extra rear rotors till whenever you need to swap it out. Those shouldn't go bad at all if you leave them on the shelf for a long period of time.
DIY is actually very easy. The only thing that could be a bitch is removing those type screws that hold the rotors on.
My local mechanic would charge me $60 for just the fronts to replace rotors and brake pads.

winky at what mileage did you change your front rotors. I just started feeling the vibration from what my dealer confirmed today as warped rotors. they told me it is $349 + tax to refinish the stocks. I'm thinking about upgrading to drilled/slotted if i might have to. its not bad so i'll wait they just hit me with a $650 maintenance bill. I'm about to start doing these things on the street. wishful thinking but i can't. I'm trying to do a search on rotors right now and i found this. oh my mileage is 41,173 right now so from what i'm reading sounds like ours last 40k or so.

Call the service manager back and ask him to pull up the service records for your car. Tell him you want to know what the "run out" specs were that they measured. I'll bet he won't have an answer because they didn't do it.
You can buy a full set of (front and rear) of slotted/drilled rotors and pads from Brakemotive for only $145 shipped:

How i accumulate 356 HP in my 07 Types 6spd
I have a 2007 Acura TL TypeS 6spds. I needed more hp to challenge some of the europeans cars. I added an AEM cold air intake that add 10 more HP and a Gforce chip performance software that is connected to the IAT sensor that gives 60 more HP total 356 HP. I was able to beat the new BMW 545I and the 2007 CLK 500. I was able to pull away about 10 cars lenght doing 14_? MPH. The down side to the TL was the car could not stop properly. I added cross-slotted drilled rotors in the front. Now the car has amazing stopping power at high speed. look into it, but i will cost you!

Do a search around for Gforce. The only increase in performance is because your wallet is lighter....

Of course your dealer confirmed warped rotors. They want to upsell you service at a ridiculous price. I doubt they even measured run out.
