Infamous MazdaSpeed3

You guys remember that freaking huge thread that blew up a few months back? Finally got a chance to run to weiner (he's a kewl guy ). Anyways, started off in 2nd around 50 mph. Car had been running for a while, so it was a bit heat soaked; I figured it wouldn't make much difference, although I have to admit, in the mornings when the car first starts up and warms up a tad, she's a real pleasure to drive lol. Anyways, taking off in 2nd, I pulled immediately a half a cars length. He stayed at my bumper for a small bit and then constantly pulled up through 3rd gear. By the end of my 3rd gear, I was at his rear bumper; expected. Shifting into 4th, he was gone - instant 1 1/2 - 2 cars on me. He also had a passenger those things really are something on the freeways! Factory FI cars ; that torque sure is awesome. By the way, me fully bolted on vs a STOCK MS3 (might have had i/e or just i, not sure).

Sure it's a loss, but I think I put up one hell of a fight!
My car looks better ne ways. haha

Alot of people take those little cars for granted. They are VERY fast on a roll. Off the line they fight for traction so get a jump on them when you can because once they grab they are gone!

My TL had a lot of miles on it (and a few problems with it)and I wanted something different so I traded it for a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. I have an intake, inlet and test pipe on it....$400 in mods. I ran a guy from a roll in a new Mustang GT with an exhaust and who knows what else on it. I pulled him by about two cars. If this car was rear drive and wasn't boost limited in the first two gears it would be a monster!
I guess I should change my sig and pic......
Here is the car.....I need to get a better pic

good run even though you lost. Those speed3's are quick cars but i agree with you, TL looks much better and is the better daily driver.

yeah those freaking move at higher speeds. it's a great car; definitely a good bang for the buck. if only the newer ms3's didn't have that huge smile on their bumpers...i'd be a fan in a heartbeat!

That's an understatement.

But...erick you are automatic, correct? If you were 6 speed it would've been a different story.

I am an automatic indeed! I wonder if I'll ever get hang of driving a 6MT in the manner as my automatic....

I tried double clutching once; it seriously took some thought - "wait a minute...okay, clutch in, put in neutral...wait uh...OH! push clutch in, put in gear.............aw damn, wait gotta rev match...push clutch in again, rev uh...put in gea...aw hell, not in at right rpm again..." fail. haha

Double clutching is only used/needed when operating transmissions without synchros, so no worries if you have a hard time doing it since basically ANY street driven manual vehicle is not going to have that deficiency. As long as you're coordinated enough to blip the clutch with your left foot and simultaneously slam it into gear with your right hand, then you can drive a MT fast just fine.

nice death and i think a 6MT TL will do much better against the speed3.

i pulled about 1.5-2 cars on my friends 5AT TL over 100mph, that's when i was stock. your right eric, the (5AT/6MT) TL's are pretty even in 2nd and part of 3rd but after that it's over, 6MT takes it

OP; when you say fully bolted, does that include the deletes?

Before most of my mods, I raced one off the line. Eventhough I had traction issues, but we were pretty even to 60. Surprisingly I've ran pretty even with 135i, 335i, Mustang Shelby GT on top end after the PnP. Would not mind running with a MS3 again.

You need to hit a track and blow the current N/A record out of the water, then. It's just 13.39 or something like that.

Shelby GT? WoW...should bring it to the track and like SLowMax said "blow the current N/A record"...

BTW...shamed on me, I "killed?" a souped up Scion XB earlier on hwy until he used the median and break down lane when I had to slow down due to the on coming traffic.

With slicks and some proper driving, I could see that happening.

t0talacuratl, did you ever get your clutch replaced? Recently watched your Youtube videos, even with a slipping clutch all the way through your runs, your car definitely pulls like a freight train.

Well he says he's walking away from cars that trap 104+ mph. Those 05-09 shelby mustangs tend to be a little slower than 104, though (if it was that year range).

I would love to take my car to a track, but the closed one is a few hours away. If I would have a perfect launch with slicks, I would pull at least high 13's. Besides I would have to take time off from my 14 hr/day work schedule.

My clutch is actually not that bad anymore since I stop dogging my car so much. I just got overly excited about the extra power from the PnP. BTW, I did not necessary pulled away from that Shelby GT. He had a fender on me, plus I had a passenger and he was alone. Thanks for the compliment though!

Congrats on the MS3 purchase. The boost is also limited in 3rd gear, just not as much as the first two. It needs a tune (AP) to remove the boost limit. Unfortunately it hasn't been released yet..

The gear is too short and too much power going to the wheels, causing torque steer.

It won't. My 5th gear pulls harder than the TL-S 6MT on 4th gear that I test drove...

If you only managed to pull 1 1/2 cars on an 5AT TL you need a driver mod.

It won't do better? The 6MT is significantly faster than the 5AT. How won't it do better?

One of the reasons your 5th gear feels stronger is because you have gobs more torque than the TL, at almost any RPM. Torque feels faster. Are you modded?

And not to sound like an ass...but Alex's car is faster than a TL-s, as is mine. But I can see why your 5th gear feels like it pulls harder, torque ftw!

I don't see too many MS3s else I would've ran one by now

damn that front lip is pretty aggressive. Nice upgrade.. I too would be sad to see the TL go and I wouldn't be all that surprised if you go back to it in the future.

btw.. Korean.. JJANG!

It used to be the unofficial Korean thread.. but Yummy felt left out..

Why the comments of leaving the new G37 to return to the TL ? I truly don't know and I am just curious because I thought the G37 was a very nice ride.

The new G's are great, I've really liked them since the remake with the G35S.. but a couple members have come back from G's and Z's to the TL (albeit the TL-S) and several members who previously owned G's have preferred the TL over it.. so it just wouldn't be surprising.

in my eyes... TL>everything else. Idk why...and I haven't ever owned a 3G or driven...only rode in as passenger on an 07 TL-S and fell in love even more.
