Increased range for factory key fob?
Just wondering if there is a way to increase the range on the original factory key fob? The reason I ask is that I've just had the remote starter installed and incorporated into the factory remote and the range is terrible.

Hold it up to your chin and see if you get more range. No kidding, there is a long thread on this that says it works.

I did it with all my Clifford alarms I used to have and some OEM fobs. Recently, I bought a Compustar unit which I'm installing in my car this weekend. It has a 1.5 mile range with spread spectrum technology. I'm kinda looking forward to using it. It's an alarm/remote starter. Sounds like an awesome unit. I'm going to try to wire it up to do remote window roll-down and roll-up. We'll see how it goes!

Lie on the ground, put the fob between your butt cheeks and squeeze. You'll unlock every TL within a 5 block radius. ![J/K](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/jk.gif)
I've used the chin trick for years... it really works.

What kind of range enhancement are we seeking? I unlocked my TL tonight from 160 feet away. That seems to be far enough for me. From wherever you unlock it, if it takes more than 30 seconds to get to the car, it will relock itself anyway, which kinda defeats really long distances.

Thanks Ron. I tried to search for it but didn't get any results. Thanks again.

Funchi,
If you're talking to me, I didn't actually wire it up to the OEM fob. After finding out that the OEM fob had such a limited range, I bought a system that has a crazy range and it's two-way. To wire it up to the OEM fob, you'd have to use something like the PAC TR-7 and do some fancy circuitry, but you'd still have such a low range which kind of defeats the purpose of a "REMOTE" start.

I managed a walked off 186 feet once using the chin method.
"Lie on the ground, put the fob between your butt cheeks and squeeze". Hey, I tried this, but all I managed to get were a bunch of delicious looking ladies.

Yea, after spending some cash on a new car ie: TL i was sorta disapointed on the fob range. I can get it within 10 feet. I remember back in the day when my friend could lock/unlock his car halfway across the mall parking lot. The chin thing does work. I use it all the time for my apt. gates. B4 I had to mash the button 50 times and at 2-4 feet away now as I drive up I just put the remote next to my chin and I can open it at 15 feet. At this rate i think my jaw is going to fall off. oh well...

Also check the battery on your remote. The fob should be able to lock/unlock from 30 or 40 feet away; my fob does (maybe a little further, actually) although it has the original battery from April 2005.
