Importing a 3rd Gen TL FROM Canada

Hi all,

I've been lurking around this forum for awhile now, as the plans for me to get this TL have been in the works for a few months. I realize this is opposite of what common sense says to do, but I've gotten lucky...

My father in law has a 2006 Acura TL, and he is Canadian. Basically, we have worked out a deal where I will get his car, and he will take mine for his other daughter who lives in the US. Its a great deal for me, definitely a trade up..however, I need to figure out how to get this car into the US. I've been on the site and read the rules, but I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has done this reverse-import. Of course, many have done it the other way around from my search, but I didn't see any that had imported from CA into the US. Thanks for your help! Looking forward to taking part in this forum once I have the car!

LOL, yes, but I was thinking more in terms of Emissions requirements, forms needed, tax to be paid. I just wondered if someone had done it for this specific car and could walk me through some of the steps, ie, is the car "identical to a US certified version" and what forms I need to have ready ahead of time.

Its my father in law, so I have a little help on that front as I can get title, vin, get him to do some steps if need be also.

i would assume its very similar to a US sale.

you and your FIL make the transaction.
you drive over the boarder and then register the car in your home state....

I'm just assuming.

if i can remember correctly, you need a letter from the dmv or whatever the place is that stats that your car meets all of your states requirements for the vehicle to be allowed on the road.
you then proceed by driving it across the boarder, declare that you've purchased this car for x-amount of dollars and pay the fees, show the paper work, etc.
i believe getting it shipped is abit more expensive but majority of the companies there would know how to do the paper work, if you don't intend to do it yourself.

my car is american, im from canada.
