So here I was...cleaning my ssm TL for the 2nd time in one week. Feeling clumsy, I wore pants that had tiny copperish-tinish zippers on the sides. Not knowing this hazard, i had made 3cm long scratches on the side of my car when trying to reach to roof. The scratches are around 0.5mm deep. I've tried touch up painting it, but it is still evident when looked at at some angles. I know I am suppose to wait for 5 minutes between coats, however, there is a problem. The scratch is 0.5mm thick. The Acura touch up brush is too fat to make a clean stroke over the scratch, so I have to wipe the excess off the sides after a certain time before it dries onto the "non-scratched" parts. I'm stuck, any advice as to what I can do? Any advices as to how to touch up paint effectively from previous experiences? Other than these few fcuking scratches, my car is flawless (touches wood). Hope all of this made sense, I'm so frustrated!

A toothpick would work, too. You just have to work the paint in to the scratch.

try using a toothpick to apply the touch up paint - and make sure you shake the hell out of the paint before using, too. some would even suggest just using the brush, and then use extra-fine sandpaper to get the extra off, but you shouldn't even think about doing this unless you're a pro. you gotta have patience and properly apply multiple layers of the touch up paint, too.

So yup. I bought a bottle of the ScratchX and used it. Read online on how to use it and applied 4 applications. It does not work as efficiently as I've thought it would. It looks great when I just apply it, but once it dries, it reappears quite clearly again. I am sure the scratch is NOT too deep and is only about 3cm long, and hairline thick. Any words to the wise from anyone? Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

My local Target (well the one of the two I went to) didn't have it. I went to Walmart and got the last tube on the shelf. It deff made a diff on some scratches on my drivers side rear door. Some clowns tried to break in last Jan and did some scratches I didn't notice there when having the rest of the car repaired. I was without the car almost a month and did not care to leave it with the dealer any longer for these scratches. Maybe later this week will get it detailed (Exterior anyway) maybe they can do better with a buffing wheel.
I will try it after the next wash again and see if I can get it better. I remeber on my older cars (without metal flake and maybe no clear coat) just using rubbing compound for scratches way worse and they would clean up so well.
