And if you found yourself in this situation...??
OK....let's say that it is a clear, sunny day. You are in your TL and about to hop onto the interstate. There is lots of traffic, to the point where you have to stop at the end of the on-ramp while you wait for an opening. So once you have an opening, you must accelerate as quickly as possible to highway speed. My question is....Do you: A. Keep the tranny in Drive and floor it B. Move to sequential sport shift and manually shift C. Move to sequential sport shift and let the car do the shifting Please share which option you would choose and your rationale. Thanks!

In SS mode, the 1->2 shift is automatic like in "D." With the gas pedal floored and 5AT in "D," you'll be passing traffic and above legal speeds before the tranny shifts into 3d gear. :2cents: |

less weight :tomato: |
Step on the gas...the transmission knows what to do. The manumatic function is more useful for holding gears and downshifting than it is under acceleration. Car magazines don't shift automatics manually to get better acceleration times.
|
Because manually shifting the gears on an automatic is slower than just stomping on it.
|
Agreed. It's just faster to leave it in drive and floor it. Our transmission knows what right gear to shift in to.
|
1) Turn off traction control
2) Floor it in "D" 3) Bump music |

SS is really worthless unless its snowing and you wanted to let the engine slow down the car instead of hitting the brakes so you don't lose control. Its also good for racing, because lets say your at a certain MPH that it shift but you want it held at 3500RPMs, so you keep it in SS to hold that.
