I'd like a nice, shiny dashboard.

I bought an '06 TL last month (Pearl White with tan leather interior.)

The last 30 days I've found myself taking the long drive home from work, and volunteering to run to the store 10 times a day.

The Owner before me had something glued to the Dashboard. It's been removed- but there was a sticky spot on the Dash where it had been.

Like an Idiot I scrubbed the spot with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Now, instead of a gunky spot- there's a spot that's dull and faded.

Any suggestions on how to shine this spot up?

Someone told me to avoid Armor All products?

Any Advice?

Thanks!

-Go Noles.

avoid armor all products huh? well...there goes my suggestion. maybe you could use the lexol line up? i use that on my leather for the most part, but if it's "dull" maybe it just needs to be "reconditioned" - lexol has something like that, i believe it's a brown bottle?

get 303 Aerospace Protectant, I have used it for years and it is the best stuff you can find for cleaning and protecting your dash

One of our vendors, Excel Detail sells it here cheap!

erick3- Thanks for the quick response.

I think the theory behind 'avoiding Armor All' is that their products are alcohol based- which I've been told dries out the dash over time. The same guy who told me that reccommended using silicon based products. Shoot, I don't know, it could be an Urban Legend as far as I know.

I'll give the lexol a shot, I wonder if it's alcohol based too- I'll do some research.

PAZ- I'll check out the Aerospace protectant too.

Thanks guys.

not a problem sir - keep us updated. i've been using armor all for quite some time now, but i haven't really seen but "drying" - i didn't even realize it was alcohol based, as it will indeed dry the dashboard out (should be immediate, not over time though ). iono tell us what you find out!

Pure Bull Shit ( to put it nicely )

Its in the same base & family as 303 and all the other ( white) water based protectants.

Jesstzn- I did a little research and found the same thing. You're exactly right. The base in AA is the same as in 303 and several others.

Thanks!

What do you use on that fine looking VW you've got? I followed the link you posted- that ride is FIRST CLASS, my friend.

I don't have the VW any more .. I traded it in on the TL ..

The VW & the TL are both done in Zaino Z2 & Klasse SG This coming spring I'll be dropping the Zaino .. and going with Klasse SG as a base and topped with something undecided yet.

There is a TSB somewhere about how best to shine up your dashboard. A lot of us with early TLs had a dashboard fade problem and the TSB solution worked pretty well. I don't have time to track down the prior discussion at this moment, but will try to get back here later tonight or tomorrow morning to follow up. Meanwhile, if you look in the 3G Garage thread you may be able to find the TSB.

While that may be true 303 seems to be far less "greasy" feeling. Plus I prefer the way it works on tires over AA.

To the OP, not likely you will get a "shine". The dash is not the same as the upper door panels. The dash always retains some matte finish while the trim on the upper door panels, and one small strip right near the base of the windshield, will "shine"

Following up, I can't find the exact TSB, although I know it exists. The following thread should give you the info you need for shining up the dash, although whether it applies to a wear-induced spot is something I don't know:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ght=faded+dash

(That should be a link, BTW.)

My Acura dealer didn't have the vinyl-leather protectant mentioned; they said there was some sort of hazmat regulation in Virginia that prevented them from carrying it (and the other Virginia dealer I called said the same thing). I used Griot's Garage Vinyl & Rubber Dressing as a substitute and it seemed to work quite well.

It was caused by the adhesive disc used to mount a GPS to the dash. Nasty stuff.
Go to Proper Auto Care (.com) as they have a leather restorer.
