I will be jealous of the 06

I have my 04 on order -- my build date is August 23rd, dealership said I would have the car by the 25th or 26th. Time is fast approaching and I can hardly wait. I know it is late in the year and most would probably wait for the 05 since they are already taking orders, but I have been waiting for months now for the 04 I have on order and I really dont see any major changes that will occur in the 05. Therefore, the simple fact of owning an 05 does not mean enough to wait for the 05. And besides, look how long people are still waiting for 04s like myself. I could just see me switching to the 05 and getting the long, or ever longer wait again. Would have to start from scratch and put my name at the bottom of the wait list again. First of all, just wondering if that makes sense to anyone and if anyone can relate.

Secondly, the real reason I posted this message. It seems as though the 06 def. will be AWD coming from many of the posts I read on here. That is really going to make me jealous, I must admit. I mean I really think this is a badass car now, and making it AWD makes it ten times better. Is it really true that it will be. If so, I think that I will have to trade in my 04 for an 06. I wonder what i would get for it and if i would lose my shirt on the deal.

Just my ramblings, but thanks to anyone who replies. I think this board is great and read it faithfully everyday at work, lol. Helps the time go by faster and there is a lot of good info in here.

Build: 8/23
Arrive: 8/25-8/26

Wow, the swift service! Last night one :shit: NJ dealership said it takes 45 days to ship from Ohio to their lots.

No one could confirm 06 SH-AWD model yet. It's just another guessable rumor. It's the same as we say "TL will come with Turn signal over the mirror".

Don't worry about that, you will enjoy your car soon.

Out of curiousity, what kind of combo are you ordering and making you wait so long? If price incentive is attrative and the early 05 allocation order from you dealer has the same combo, '05 might be the good consideration?

I agree with you 100% about the build and arrive dates. I just blew it off when he told me that the first time. Then I got thinking about it, and called him back -- dealer said they are on direct shipment and always get their cars a couple of days after the build date. I hope he is not pulling anything on me or it will force me to change dealerships and go with the 05.

My order is for a ABP, HP tires, Navi, 6sp MT -- such a toy that i can barely contain myself for this long ass wait.

I'm sure most of delivery could be done in 3-14 business days, especially you ain't too far away from Marysville.

Good luck to you.

That build/ship stuff does sound a little fishy, but what do I know? It'll be a sweet ride anyway. I wish I had gone with navi, not so much for the navi itself but for the voice commands.

You're fine to go with the '04. You won't be missing much with the '05. I know how you feel about possibly being jealous about the '06, etc., but this kind of thinking never ends. Something "better" will always be around the corner--it's like buying a computer.

That car should keep you happy for years to come.

The only bad thing is you will be paying full price for a car that will technically be 1 year old in a month or so and will have the lowered value of the 04 vs the 05. Enjoy your car

I thought about that, but it will be an 04 with very low mileage, so hoping they will cancel eacthother out.

It does (cancel each other out). The MY does not really matter. Mileage and the overall condition of the automobile is what ultimately matters.

I can't see buying an '04 when the '05s will be out next month, unless you're getting a significant discount (especially since it's a first year model). I've been waiting since last year to get an '05. What's another month or two? Just my $0.02. Enjoy your car!

I sometimes think that too--however, i waited this long this late in the production of an 04 -- i dont want to even think about getting in line for an 05 now -- so close to the 04 and to start again will really piss me off -- i cant believe i waited this long for a car

I'm in th same boat with stroutman. (All Except the HPTs because I'm doing full A-Spec) You (05TL) say we should get an 05, but I put my Deposit down back in APRIL. There is no way I'm putting a deposit down on an 05 and waiting another 5 months for my car.

Not sure what the hoopla over possible AWD is - it adds what - 250-300 lbs? I love it in my Outback, but that also has high ground clearance, and is the vehicle we use in snow - I like cars that are dedicated - S2000 is my F-22, TL is my B2, and the Outback is my A-10.

F-22 Nimble, rules the skies
B2 - carries and drops the load with style
A10- not pretty, but versatile and gets a lot of jobs done

I think of my TL as more of an F-16: a lot for the price, versatile, reliable, and relatively nimble (although obviously less nimble than the S2000, etc.).

My former 1982 Toyota Celica GT? A Mig-21.

i really dun think they are going to offer awd in the 06. it might canabalize RL sales, what would be the major difference to justify someone getting the RL instead of the TL? i think the next gen TL will get awd not this one.

Yeah, 06 Specs are all speculation. I don't think the 06 will have SH-AWD, but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong. I don't think Acura would introduce AWD into their line and keep it unique for only one year. Although making the TL AWD would be a good move too for business. I think SH-AWD will come with a redesign. While I think it will be awesome and really wish my 04TL had SH-AWD, by then I will have moved onto hopefully a performing german car. My heart is set on an M3 or an S4 (if I'm somewhere cold in 4-5 years).

As a frame of reference, my build date was Sept 30 - Oct 2 [2003], it left Marysville's World-Renowned Quality Assurance Facility on October 6, and I had it October 10.

Didn't give the dealer time to do anything but clean it, but I had it.

Personally, I find AWD on a sedan like the TL a big negative - much more complexity for the times you'd need it. Buy a 4X4 truck if you need to drive in the snow - let the TL sit in the garage. As for the time difference between the '04 and 05, look at it this way - if you'd wait long enough, you could get an '06 or an '07. I don't plan to trade the TL until the year difference is negligible - if you plan to trade in a year or two, it would make a difference. Do most of the readers out there plan to keep their TL's longer than 3-4 years? I usually keep a car at least 7 years.

Ted,

I'm with you. I kept my last car 7 years before I sold it. That came to about 100K of service. I think I will do the same for the TL. By that time, there's usually a much more desirable car I become interested in. However, I am also under the notion that cars above 100K tend to become costly to maintain as stuff breaks.
