autocross racing is controlled low speed- 20 to 45mph pylon chasing on a big parking lot.
Car control is all important and will teach you where the corners of the car are-
cost about $25 to enter the event for a day- see www.scca.org as a starter point
Going fast requires very little skill beyond pushing the big pedal, while real driving....!
Look into local racetrack websites- Most have several car clubs that rent the track and offer Hi Performance driving days also called Track School or Track Days about 250 $
You dont race the other cars, you learn to drive safely, and speed comes with skill-
you have a real race driver as your copilot as you learn what entry apex and exit mean. After that- report back here for more skills developement

Dont even think of going out alone yet- the TL will bite you until you know its systems and get experience working up the speeds you can corner and braking points with a skilled adult to help you and watch for idiots on the road

Look at youtube type sites for Track Day videos shot by students, and see how they go thru the corners- most have a few laps at a time to view

typical kid, 60 year old? thats not that old. I'm 20 and I would not agree with you one bit, more 16 yr olds die because of stupidity than 60 year olds! 70-90 on the other hand....

BS.... I took plenty of AP courses while in high school, GPA cannot go above 100%...its pure mathematics.

Did you take any advanced placement exams yet? which APs are you taking?

New Math.

Standard Classes = 4.0 scale
Honors Classes = 5.0 scale
AP Classes = 6.0 scale.

Total GPA is a weighted average based on mix of class types. Not all schools (or colleges) recognize a scale higher than 4.0, but many do.

Bearcat94, thanks for the info...

This is just as ridiculous as getting paid to do well on the exams.

Instead of making students smarter and more aware of how they are doing in school, we are creating a new system which babies everyone.

If your 17 and want ANY chance at driving it in the future you had BETTER NOT even CONSIDER driving it without him there until MUCH later. This entire thread just looks like a kid salivating over his dad's car. Congratulate your dad on HIS new car and thank him whenever he gives you the chance to drive it by being respectful of HIS car. Don't speed, Don't drive a WHOLE bunch of other kids around in it (as having a lot of kids in a car is distracting), etc...
Wowww, take it easy, bro. Don't give yourself a heart attack or anything . . . damn!

OK autumnfalls, there is one thing you need to learn about this site. Everyone is going to hate on you for a while, cus you are new to the site, and you get to drive your dad's brand new TL. All the older dudes here are upset because they didn't get to drive an '08 TL as their first car. If I were you, after reading half of the replies here, I would run and never come back . . . I don't know why everyone is freaking out. You must be a pretty bright kid considering you are taking AP classes and have a 4.1 GPA. I am a teacher in a high school, so I know how difficult that can be. Congrats on getting to whip around in the new TL! Enjoy it.

autumfalls, don't run, stay with us

This is very informative website. For example, I just learned that GPA goes up 6.0

Are the AP exams still in the scale of 1 - 5?

+1

Autumnfalls- welcome to the site. Now that you've cleared up a little bit of the confusion while being mature about it, I'm sure NO ONE will continue to be a jerk about it.

man i wont lie. i remember the day i got my 2005 6MT acura tl. I have a 1996 accord coupe which is my first and only car. I knew how to drive manual from my friend but just for the sake of switching gears and actually accelerating. I thought I was a badass cause the car was so fast compared to my accord. I went on a local freeway when it started getting dark and I pulled up to this modded honda s2000 thinking i was bad. I started messing with him. Im guessing the guy dropped into like 2nd or 3rd and gunned it for like 2 seconds and it scared the shit out of me. I started picturing myself try to gun my tl and lose control and crash. I literally had a panic attack. haha, i just started driving normally all the way back to the house.

a couple months down the road now and its a different story

that car has a nice kick for somone who doesnt have experience driving that kind of power on a normal basis. easily do something stupid and lose control.

take govt, i took it, it wasnt that bad, and the kaplan review book is amazing prep.
how was calc? im takin it in may and im really nervous cuz if i do well, i could place out of business calc in college and i might not have to take math again.

senioritis is getting to me, which is restricting my tl privileges...

wow, that came out wrong
wat i meant was, it could be cool to have aps out of 6 here, cuz my gpa would be a lot higher, given the emphasis my school places on aps

No, it's cool. I understood the intent. I am sure there are a variety of formula's depending on the district.

I have NO problem with getting "extra credit" for AP classes. You take a college level course (say Calculus) in HS, you deserve some consideration over somebody skating their way to an "A" in a "regular" math class.

Ya Govt was alright, I had Kaplan too soo good.
lol ive been driving the tl lately and its been so fun
i have to take the car myself now cuz my dad is gone
